                  Today was the day.
I've never prepared and analysed myself so much for something. I brushed my teeth, flossed, and used mouthwash...three times. I made sure my hair was perfect, that I smelled great, and that my outfit wasn't basic or trash. Everything had to be perfect or more. I looked at the time to see that it was 4:15pm. I quickly finished my last preparations and rushed downstairs to grab the keys to go get Scarlett. I told her I'd pick her up at 4:25pm and I needed to make sure I held true to that.

My Mom walked out of her room, dazed from waking up from her nap ang she's confused from my current rushing of actions. "Baby, you okay? You're running around like a chicken with its head cut off." Her comment flies right over my head, "What Mom? Hold up, I'm gonna be late if we stop to talk. I gotta go." Her face is even more confused than before, "Honey, go where?" I sigh and stop to look at her. "Remember, I told you on Tuesday that my friends and I are going to the park to play volleyball." She face palms herself in realization, "Ah! I'm sorry Alexander. You know me, I forget sometimes. But okay, have fun sweetie and be safe. Call me to check in every now and then." She gives me a kiss on the head as I rush out the door.

I don't have much time to prepare myself mentally as I drive the 2 to 3 minute drive to Scarlett's house.

Oh shit wait, I'm going to Scarlett's house.

The realization hit me more and more every time I thought about it. I've only been friends with this girl for a few months yet, I'm already picking her up from her house AND I have her number. If you ask me, that's a fucking victory. I confidently turn my music up in my car, feeling proud of the glorious work I've done to get where I am. Shit, Volleyball is only going to seal the deal! Finally, I turn the last corner to see what is her house.

5609 Red Creek Dr.

I opened my door and got out as I prepped myself for the unknown territory that lays in front of me. Jesus man, why do I feel like I'm picking this girl up for a date? Its just for a date at the park with friends! Nothing big, right? Then why am I so damn nervous? What could I possibly be nervous about?

I knocked on her front door and took a couple of deep breaths. I hear the lock of the doors turn and my body stiffens. I was ready to take on whatever life throws at me next! The door opens and I'm greeted by what I would describe...a nightmare.

He was extremely tall, peaking almost close to the frame of the door. His body proportions looked as if they were doubled that of a humans. His hands were dominant and largely thick, his chest was puffed out in a intimidating fashion that would make even a body builder give a glance. Everything about his stature was like a wild beast, ready to kill you at any moment. His face, with eyes that could give a child nightmares, was accompanied by a large scar across his nose. Even his basic outfit of jeans and a polo was someone enough to make me quiver, simply because of aura he presented. However, none of that was truly scary as what I had just realized. The most scariest feature about this man wasn't his many fearful attributes. No, it was more simple than that.  If anything, I think I was staring at death.

I had realized...that this was Scarlett's father...

What the actual FUCK. I was NOT ready for this. I could've handled anything else, but not this! I wanted to speak, but there was no confidence radiating from me. I was stopped in place and I was not able to move. Mr Everwood beat me to the punch and spoke first, "So, you're Alexander. Scarlett's been talking a lot about you lately." His voice hit me like a train. I was still lost in thought but was able to squeak out a response, "Yes, that's me haha! It's uh, a pleasure, Mr Everwood. I promise sir, I'll be safe." He chuckled and I nervously followed, "You'd better! Or else I'd have to kill you..." He leaned into me giving me his gaze of death as the snake that was his eyes wrapped around me. I didn't respond as I turned ghost white in fear as he placed his arm on my shoulder and let out a big gusty laugh, "Haha! I'm just kidding! You should see your face kid, never gets old." Oh my god, is this guy twelve? He just scared the shit out of me. "Ah, no Alexander you're a good kid. I trust you with my daughter. If I didn't, you wouldn't be here right now." I was about to say thank you when I realized...how does he already know I'm a good child when we just met?
