The screams of other children wake me up. I hear what sounds like a knife being sharpened. I open my eyes, but the blindfold’s still on. There are so many questions to ask. Where am I? Will I ever get out? How long have I been here? Days? Weeks? Months? But the biggest question of all, are they going to kill me?
So here I sit blind folded. I don’t know where I’m at, or what to do. How could it be this way? It was a day like any other when it all started. I remember it just like yesterday. Casey and I were walking down Leaked Rd. We were talking about how we met. Out of now where Casey made a comment about Mr. Drankler, our L.A teacher.
I said, “ Did you notice the way Mr. Drankler said flipped out when Billy tried to high five him? He really doesn’t like to be touched!”
“Yes I did,“ Casey said laughing.
WAIT!!! I hear something! Footsteps, and they’re coming towards me! I want to scream, but I don’t want to remind them I’m here. The footsteps stop right in front of me. This time I do scream…
The foot steps move on.
Whew!! I let out a deep breath full of stress. I hear what sounds like a faucet dripping. This reminds me…
I was walking Casey home and we walked past my house. I got a weird feeling, but I didn’t notice anything. I stayed at Casey’s for about an half an hour. I couldn’t stop thinking about my house on my way home. I was walking up to my house, and I spotted a big black van.
Then I realized I left my sweater up at Casey’s house. I saw her walking up my street with it. All the sudden, blackness. Casey’s scream of terror shocked me. It’s funny how on any normal day you wouldn’t notice a faucet dripping, or a black van. But that day wasn’t normal.
I hear the door open outside my cell. ”Fifty thousand dollars and you can choose any one,” a man with a deep voice says.
“Thank you, I’ll choose this one,” another man says. Across the aisle I hear a little boy scream. Poor boy, he’s so little and he’s getting tortured.
Why does this cruel man have to be this way? Who is this man?
My mind drifts back to the past...
I remember hearing a deep raspy voice. “We will get a lot of money for this one! She’s a beauty!,” he said.
“Yeah money, moolah, big bucks, cash! That’s what we’re getting!” another man with a Mexican voice says.
“Why do you have to be so stupid?” the man with the raspy voice says.
“Why do you have to be so evil?” the Mexican man came back with.
“Touché!” replied the man with the raspy voice.
My mind comes back to reality…
I hear the man with the raspy voice. This time It’s a woman with him. Who could this man with the raspy voice be? His voice sounds so familiar. I remember this voice! I just can’t think of who it is! When ever he talks his voice stabs at me until I can’t take it anymore.
“Thanks for the money,” the lady says. “I’ll pay you back. Let’s shake on it.”
“Nobody! Nobody touches me!” says the man with the raspy voice.
I know who this man is! I just know it!
I try thinking back on the possible people who would kidnap me. All I can think of is about the vehicle. I remember sitting there listing to a bang every time we hit a bump, the smell of rotten eggs, and the feel of a worn out rug.
“Get me my wallet! Snap it!” the man with the raspy voice said. It reminded me of the way Mr. Drankler yells at us in class! There’s not to much else I remember about the van.
I hear a vehicle pull up outside the door of where I’m being held. Is it another evil man? Or another child?
I hear the heavy door slam shut with the familiar sound of a child crying. In fact this is a really familar cry. Is it.....NO!
"Casey! No! Please tell me its not you!" I scream in panick.
"Annalise! Im here.. its me. Dont worry we'll be out of here soon," as soon as she said it I knew she shouldnt of.
"What'd you say?" the mystery man asked. From what I heard it sounded as if he was searching Casey. "I should've know! A tracker!"
"We'll take care of her boss,"
"No first move that other girl to the extra room,"
I hear the voices move towards my cell. The keys clink in the lock. Oh no, is this what I've be dreading? Is it my turn? A pair of rough, dry hands grab my arm. I pull away but their grip tightens. What am I going tom do?...
In all of the struggling I must've fainted because now im siting in a unfamiliar room. It takes me a minute to actually notice I see something other than darkness. I sense the presence of someone else. Quickly turning around to see who this horrible mystery man is, I just see Billy, helpless and harmed. I've never seen a boy cry before, but Billy, he is sobbing. Not knowing what to say I rush over and sit down next to him, wrapping my arms around him and placince my head on his shoulder. Looking up at his face from this angle I really notice how handsome he his. I'm startled when he suddenly turns and starts to speak.
"Annalise, will we ever get out of here?" he asked me. Looking at me with his ice blue eyes.
"I don't know Billy, hopefully," is the only way I can think to respond.
'Well incase we dont, I wanted you to know," I can sense the hesitation. "I've loved you since fourth grade. I haven't had my first kiss yet because I only want it to be with you. I know that will never happen," he says looking away. I react quickly, but it feels like it took forever.
"I haven't had my first kiss either," next thing I know I kiss him. In this moment I relieze all this time I loved Billy. Three men storm in, interupting us. These men aren't just men though, they're he FBI. Finally!!!
"Wheres Casey?"
"Listen, Casey had a tracker on. We made her get kidnapped and we tracked her. When they brought her underground we lost signal. We had the location written down though," the front man says.
"What about Casey?"
"Unfortunatley Casey was killed before we arrived. Im very sorry miss. We found the leader of his group. His name is John Drankler," he says not sounding sincere.
I sit with Billy, now we're both sobbing. This all seems to happen so fast. Next thing I know I'm standing with Billy and Mom outside.
"You okay about Casey?" Mom asked me.
"It's going to be hard not having my best frined, but she died a hero, so yah," just then Billy slides his hand into mine. We walk to the car. Dinner is amazing! It feels so good to eat! After dinner we drive Billy home then head home ourselves. It sure does feel good to sleep in my own bed
