It was the first day of school. That year, we had a new teacher. We were supposed to have Ms. Jole, but then she made a drastic decision to retire. So now we have Mr. Hiss. He is tall and very thin. He was also bald. But the weirdest thing about him was his eyes. They were small and very round, and they seemed to GLOW a bright green-yellow. The bell rang.

"Hello classss." Mr. Hiss said. "Pleassse get out a peice of paper."

I thought it was weird how he carried out the 's' at the end of words. It made it sound like he was hissing. I pulled a peice of paper from my notebook.

"When you are ready, pleassse write your name, age, and sssome of your hobbiesss." He inscructed.

I started writing.

'My name is Kimmy Jane Carter and I am 13. I like to make up scary stories and tell them to my brother.'

When everybody finished writing, Mr. Hiss walked around and picked up the papers. When he picked up mine, his hand brushed across my fingers. I jerked back and stared up at him in shock. His hand was cold and slimy. He smiled. I promise I saw fangs. His eyes flashed red and I clamped my hand over my mouth to try and stop the scream that was bubbling up into my throat.

I sat there shaking in my desk. He was a monster. I was certain of it. As soon as the bell rang, I was out of there. While I was in my math class, I realized I had forgotten my homework in Mr. Hiss's. I had no choice but to go back. Class ended and I got up and walked slowly to Mr. Hiss's room. I reached out to open the door . . . then hesitated. Images of Mr. Hiss flashed in my head and I shuttered. But I needed my homework. I took a deep breath and turned the knob. The door swung open and I stepped inside. I didn't see Mr. Hiss. I could just grab my homework and leave. I hurried to my desk and searched inside. It wasn't there. Maybe a student turned it in. I walked over to Mr. Hiss's desk. I didn't see it there. Maybe he stashed it inside of it. I walked around and screamed bloody murder. In Mr. Hiss's chair was giant snake with a huge lump in it's belly. Underneath the desk, was an empty rat cage. The snake's eyes were glowing a bright green-yellow.

"Ahh. . . dear, dear Kimmy." The snake hissed.

It's voice was soft but something deadly lie hidden underneath. I probably would have screamed again, but I was frozen in shock. My mouth was open in a silent scream and my eyes were as huge as plates.

"But I can't let you know my secret." He continued.

If snakes can smile he did. He lunged. He missed and I stumbled back. He slithered after me. I jumped up and ran out of the room. Class had already started again, so the halls were empty. He stayed right behind me the whole time I ran. The janitor stepped out of his room. He saw me running and I got an idea.

"Snake!" I yelled

The janitor hurried back into the room and came back out with a shovel. I ran toward him and Mr. Hiss followed. As soon as Mr. Hiss got close, the janitor swung the shovel downward. It sliced through the snakes head. And just like that, it was all over.

A Month Later . . .

We had a sub until they found a new teacher. The new teacher was a black woman with her hair pulled back in a bun. When she turned around, I saw a bright red hourglass on the back of her neck. Her name was Ms. Widow.
