Screams echo into the night. The acrid smell of burning and smoke covers the plains. Roars of mighty beasts mix.
Undeniably, there's a sense of challenge and anticipation within the Vikings of Berk. Defending their village is a standard and a vital task to the survival of the village. For generations, the worthy men and women of Berk, fight and defend their homeland in hope of hitting their moment in victory, the moment that is recalled at the next dinner, next fire, next birthday and to their children and grandchildren.
Valiance is rewarded, so is courage and bravery and brawn and hotheadedness.
Unless if it gets you killed.
Valka was beautiful and kind, she was also a fierce warrior. Those qualities presumably sent Stoick head over heels for her, another story to laugh about and ward off the frigid night with. Valka wasn't predominantly headstrong, if anything, her young, recklessness had faded with age to a levelled way of thinking.
Tonight, she was headstrong.
Stoick had run off into the night, to the Eastern side of the village where the fight was. Valka, with faith in her instincts, had ran to the neighbouring home, helping the resident elder escape only a fraction before the house collapsed. Relief flooded Valka and the elder as they laid on the grass in a heap.
That relief quickly turned to cold-blooded terror as Valka spotted a shadow on the edges of her home; it had red, bulbous skin, thick, riplious muscles, long, curled horns and the face of a demon. Valka screamed in horror as she realised that the beast was clawing off the side of her home where her son lay.
Without a moment to second guess herself, she tore through the front door, rushing up the splintering steps.
It's tearing the house apart! She thought fleetingly as the beast unfurled its wings, shocked by its brilliance Valka fell backward. It lifted off. A large, gaping hole in the room as Valka watched the dragon depart with her child.
"Hiccup!" She screamed into the lonely silence, a cry of loss and heartbreak. The structure around her, as if responding to her grief, finally gave way, collapsing inwards and crushing Valka beneath.
The dragon, a rare and extremely intelligent (albeit, emotionless) creature, cradled the child within its claws. For it did not understand why, instead of loitering or destroying like it's less intelligent counterparts, it decided to abduct a child.
Something is special about this one. It convinced itself, he'll do good things for us, he is the equilibrium our two worlds need.
