1)What inspired you to write The Ghost Files?
I was lucky enough to get to know some foster kids. It took me the better part of a year to get them to open up to me. They are a breed of kids like no other: tough as nails, closed off, defensive, supportive of only each other, and so very brave. They are also heartbreaking. Some of the stories they told me made me want to cry. There are tons of great foster homes out there, but there are just as many bad ones.
I have this insane imagination that rears its head at the oddest of times. I was doing dishes when I saw the strangest thing. One of the kitchen window curtains was fluttering like a madman. There was no wind that day and my AC wasn’t on. I stopped mid wash and just watched it. My first thought: a ghost. Well how do you know it’s a ghost, I asked myself and then I started thinking and Mattie was born. She became my ghost girl and then I knew it was a perfect opportunity to tell the story of so many foster kids who don’t get those wonderful homes. I wanted people to see Mattie as the vulnerable girl she was underneath the veil of tough kid. And I think I did that.

3)Which character of yours speaks the loudest to you ?
Mattie – she’s a little crazy like I am.
4)Who designs your book cover/s ?
I usually find my own artwork and then we go from there. The Ghost Files V1 was designed by a good friend of mine, Tirzalaughs, who does book covers professionally.
5)Have you been in love before?
Who hasn’t?
6). Who was your hottest boyfriend?
My current one – Russian and very temperamental.
7) What are your turn ons and turn offs?
I absolutely hate know-it-alls. I mean you can be arrogant, just don’t demean others doing it. I love strong, decisive men. I’m a fan of green eyes too. Just check out Devon in The Awakening – that is my dream guy.
8)Do you like yourself?
Yes, but I didn’t always. I was fat at one point and a lot of people made me feel even worse. I went through a hard time in my life and food was my wubby. I’m healthy now, but it took a lot to get here and I know what it feels like to be on both sides of the table.
9) What is your biggest achievement in life?
Getting published. You get so many “NO’s” that sometimes it can be disheartening. Getting a “YES” made me jump up and down.
10 ) If you could go on a dream holiday, where would it be?
Venice during their version of our Mardi Gras.
11) What is the wildest thing you have ever done?
I never tell that particular story. It gets me into trouble every time.
12)What is the one most embarrassing thing you have ever done?
Let’s just say it involved pledging for a sorority.
13) Describe your first date? What did you do, where did you go? Did you love him?
Let’s see, I was sixteen and in a small town. We went to the movies and McDonalds. Nope, it was a first date and until he asked me out, I had no idea he even liked me.
14) What are your thoughts on death?
Death is just another experience. We move from this plane to the next. I personally believe in God, so when I die, if I’ve been a good enough person in this life, I firmly believe I’ll see my loved ones in Heaven.
15)Who is your favorite writer?
Kim Harrison hands down.
16) Who inspires you to write?
Everyone. Just stop, look around you and you can always find something to write about just based on what people around you are doing.
17) What type of scenes do you hate writing?
Backstory. Sometimes when you have to give the background of a character or a situation, it can feel like an information dump and I hate doing that.
18) What quote , means something to you?
“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” —Oscar Wilde No truer words have ever been spoken. No two people are the same and you should always want to be unique.
19)What are your fetishes ?
I really don’t have any.
20) What do you think of this interview?
For an author, you might want to focus more on writing questions. These questions are more geared towards an actor or singer. Good job overall though.
