"Anna.".

"Anna died five years ago."

I snicker. "You died from an over dose. Right? Tell me, how did you manage that?"

"That wasn't up to me."

"What? Being resurrected from the dead?" I felt myself getting angry. "You were dead Anna. I was at your funeral."

"Oh you mean how you stood in the back and walked away before the service even started?"

"How did you-" I couldn't finish.

"I was there too Micheal. I was in the back watching everything."

I replay that day in mind trying to figure out where she could have been. I came up with nothing.

"I'm not calling you to rehash the past. I need you to make sure Ari Zetrov is alive and unharmed before his former boss gets to him. Ari Zetrov is a lot of things but you can't let the son of a bitch die."

"What the hell are you talking about?" I I ask her.

"Ari Zetrov used to work for someone higher in chain ranking. That guy is dangerous. Honestly, he is more than the FBI can handle."

"Who is his former boss?"

"I can't tell you." Sh simply said.

"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't rat you out right now to the FBI."

"Because I am a dead girl walking. I don't exist. Also, you knew about me and haven't said anything. "

She got me there."How did you fake your own death?"

"Micheal, there are a lot of things I wish I can tell you. The government you work for is more dirty than you know. There's things that the presidents himself doesn't know."

"What does that mean?"

She sighed almost sounding defeated. "I can't tell you. They already know about you. The less you know the better."

"Who are they?"

She doesn't respond for few moments. I started to think she had hung up on me. "Anna?"

"I need to go. You need to discard your phone."

"What why-" I couldn't finish before she hung

What the hell was that?

***

The next day I went into work a lot earlier. I walked over to my desk to look over the files we had for Ari Zetrov. There was nothing about a former boss. No mention of anything ever working for someone else. I looked over the evidence we had before the hard drive. If it wasn't for the hard drive we wouldn't have enough to bring in Ari Zetrov. The investigation would have gone on for a lot longer.

What the hell is Anna looking for? Ari Zetrov was still in our custody. He was scheduled to be transferred to the federal prison at noon. I wanted to talk to the bastard before he left.

The guard on duty to watch his cell nodded at me. I knew him but not well enough for the favor I was about to ask.

"Agent Bishop, can I help you?"

I look at the cell Ari Zetrov was in. He sat on the hard steel so called bed we had inside. He was still in his shirt and pant I saw him in when we were in the interrogation room. Zetrov looked drained.

"I need five minutes alone with him." I tell the guard.

"Agent Bishop I am not allowed to do that. I am supposed to watch him until his transfer this afternoon."
