Body Image

The ideal body now days is seen as curvy yet skinny.

Where people have been made to think never large but instead mini.

Clear faces and thin bodies have over run the word 'perfection',

While day by day we grow to hate ourselves a little more, ever time we look at our reflection.

As we begin to notice each little imperfection.

Teenage girls both graced with looks and beauty,

Make discriminating themselves publicly, their one true duty.

While everyone else is enclosed and silent,

Which only powers their thoughts, making them more violent.

But when had all these ideals and thoughts begun?

And why exactly have we left them undone?

When day by day these thoughts destroy lives,

Yet we do nothing and let them cut through us like knives.

Body images are the cause of ever tear shed,

And because of this, we refuse to look ahead.

But we all have the power to make these things stop.

So we can take back every teardrop.

So walk away from the mirror.

And look at things clearer.

There is no such thing as perfection because it's only a word,

And its meaning is nothing short of absurd.

You are beautiful no matter what you think,

And don't believe it to be true just because it was written in ink.

You're beautiful from both the inside and out.

And that is what true beauty is really about.

It doesn't just have to be about looks or brains,

But it can be the things that makes adrenaline pump through your veins.

So look at yourself clearly and point out what you like,

Because there is no rule in life that tells us we all have to be alike.

Although I am young, I too have suffered at the hands of these thoughts on my own,

But each time I push past them I refuse them to be set in stone.

So please take this message with you and don't let self image pull you down.

Because in the end, you are the only one in your life who holds the crown.
