"Mom just stop already," I say with a bit of anger in my voice. "You've been moping around since the day dad died and that's not healthy so just stop."
My mom looks up at me, eyes swollen and red from the past 20 minutes crying. I see something different in her eyes though when she looks at me. Disappointment? Fear? Hate? I can't place it. The look is just so unfamiliar.
I walk around her and grab my backpack from the counter where I placed it when I saw mom crying and fish around in it for the Nature Valley bar I was going to take to school for breakfast. But it's way past first bell and I'm late to school, as usual, and don't have time to eat there.
I give my mom a quick hug of reassurance before I head out the door unwrapping my bar as I walk away from her letting the tears roll down my own cheeks.
