Sunny walked along the water’s edge, and checking to see that no one was watching, she dove into the water. She swam deeper into the sea’s cold depths. She stopped and floated for a minute. A…something…swam by, flicking bubbles over her skin. She turned and followed it. The creature swished in and out of the water plants. Sunny kept following. Finally, she ran out of air and swam up. Bursting to share what she found, Sunny ran home.

“Mom!” Sunny shouted when home. “Guess what I saw!”

“I don’t know, sweetie,” Sunny’s mom responded absently.

“I was in the ocean and this strange animal swam by and I followed it, and I think it’s a water dinosaur!”

“Um-hm.” Sunny’s mom didn’t believe her.

When Sunny went to bed that night, the dinosaur swam in and out of her thoughts and dreams. The next morning, Sunny got up early, grabbed a towel and camera and headed to the beach. She walked along the water’s edge until she found the place where she was the night before. Setting her bag and towel down but holding her camera, Sunny took a deep breath and slipped into the sun-dappled water.

“Hello?” her heart called.

A whistle-like sound echoed through the water.

A shadow scuttled over the sunlight and Sunny looked up. There! There it was! Sunny quickly shot a few pictures. The creature swam off into the indigo depths, leaving nothing but a trail of iridescent bubbles. Sunny began to follow, snapping pictures but the camera’s film soon ran out and Sunny was forced to end the chase.

Sunny ran into the living room, brandishing the camera.

“Mom!! Look at this!” She showed her mom the pictures.

Her mom picked up the camera and gasped. “Sunny! A dinosaur? It’s…unbelievable!”

“Believe it.”
