I thought one word.
Fire.
The familiar sensation diffused through my system and sparks ignited in my fingers, causing them to become a raging inferno.
Caspian launched himself away from me like he had been shocked and cradled his hand protectively and hissed. "What do you think you're doing?”
"Controlling my destiny".
"Your destiny is not meant for you to control", he said and warily took a step forward, his palm facing towards me in a threatening manner.
"Says who", I questioned. "Why shouldn't I be able to control my own destiny"?
"Fate could change", he said mildly and I shook my head. "I will not become your science experiment".
"We aren't science experiments", he said quietly, his eyes flickering to my own. The familiar urge to obey him washed over me, like he had an invisible grasp around me and if I tried to look away, his gaze would capture mine again.
My eyes glazed over and I took a small step forward, reaching my fingers out and lightly trailing my nails against his collar bone. My hand involuntarily caressed his face as I stared into his mystifying eyes. His eyes glossed over and my breathing picked up once again as his eyes turned a lighter shade of blue with a shiny luster. They twinkled with mischief and I sucked in a breath when his soft tender lips lightly grazed the skin on my neck. "Who controls your destiny, you ask? I do", he breathed and I trembled under his touch.
"Caspian", a voice wined off far in the distance and it was barely audible since I was so absorbed into his eyes. A silly grin was plastered onto my face and it was instantly wiped off when his eyes flickered away, his words coming back to me.
"Who controls your destiny? I do".
Anger erupted inside of me and I took a step back, avoiding his eyes completely. Whenever his eyes connected with mine; I was manipulated and completely brainwashed by his abnormal eye color and the electrifying pull that urged me to follow and obey his every command.
"Cara", he growled and took another step towards me while I took another back until I was backed up against the barriers of the fallen trees.
My eyes flitted to Lee's frozen figure and then to Samara who was being held down by Cara. Her eyes were stony and empty; the life sucked out of them. Her eyes connected with mine; a flicker of life sparking back into her lifeless orbs. Her mouth parted open slightly; her chilling voice ringing through the still air. “Run and don’t ever look back”.
One last daunting scream erupted from her chest and silenced everything. My ears rang from the torturous voice that threatened to burst my eardrums like an invisible wall was pounding repeatedly onto them. I would never be able to forget the agony woven around the sound waves and her last bit of soul that was put into the haunting scream. Tears welled in the corner of my eyes and I took a step towards her. Cara was scared, holding onto her lifeless figure and her mouth was moving in hysterics but no sound would reach my ears. Shards of ice shattered near my feet and Lee plummeted to the ground. Her mouth moved in a desperate motion and her desperate hands clung onto Samara's leg.
Caspian was rapidly talking into a cellphone, his eyes kept glancing back at the commotion and I could see him wince when new pain exploded in his ears. My hands were now reaching out to Samara and I quickly checked her pulse. It was faint and growing weaker by the second, causing me to grab Lee's trembling shoulders and shake her. “Help me".
My hands fumbled to find her pulsing heart and when I did, I pumped three times. Lee closed her eyes, her eyebrows furrowing together in concentration as she manipulated the wind into Samara’s mouth. The air caused her chest to heave with oxygen but her life was withering away faster than we could revive it. I could feel Samara's life slipping through my fingers and new tears showered my cheeks and dripped off onto Samara's angelic face. Her bangs were tangled and fell flatly on her forehead while her golden blonde hair fell into soft ringlets down to her shoulders. Her pale skin glowed in the night time sky and her full lips were painted onto her face; a pale pink that could almost be mistaken as white from the frigid air. Her eyes shot open and captured mine, the sorrowful blue orbs piercing into my own and her tormented voice whispered. “Run when you still have the chance".
