It seemed like a joke as you told you friend about it before you had to hang up to play the game. It had music you didn't want to ignore your friend that's why you told him/her the reason and hung up.

You didn't like this UNKNOWN person he wanted to return a phone? Soo he asks YOU to go to an apartment to help. This doesn't make sense but you went to the apartment, did the code and went inside.
