Chapter one:
Engagement
Alice casually stepped into the room, she looked around awed by the decor even though she's been here a million times before; the room still never failed to amaze her. It wasn't just the handmade oak tables either or the silk curtains, four poster bed with several layers of sheets and comforters. No, it was also the way the light was adjusted to make a cheerful yet elegant feeling, the way the windows and furniture were placed so that the light reflected off things in a way that made the room almost radiate in angelic light. Perfection was the only way to describe a room as such, the builders and decorators really out did themselves, swear to god. At least that's how it seemed to Alice who's own room could hardly be called a horse stable, let alone a fancy room fit for a Queen; or Princess
"You can stop staring at me room now, you must've seen it a million times."
"So I've been told," Alice replied, of course she meant she's told herself this before.
"Than why do you continue to stare, it isn't much. I've seen better."
Alice quirked an eyebrow, "You're kidding me?"
"Alice, you should know by now I'm not one to kid, I'm not joking either when I say I've seen better."
Alice glanced at Elizabeth, her friend had been the one responding to her this whole time. Elizabeth was also the lovely owner of this beautiful room that people would only see after they had died.
"If you say so mi'lady."
Elizabeth turned to Alice sharply, a frown etched onto her delicate features. "I've told you before, we're both friends here, you can stop with the formalities. It's actually quite annoying."
Alice sighed, if only Elizabeth understood. In a way the princess did but she never had to live the hard life of a lower ranked citizen. Elizabeth never once had to lift a finger to do any work, as princess it was almost forbidden and against the law that she ever even step foot in a kitchen. The king would have everyone's heads if his little girl ever did. Of course, Alice as Elizabeth's personal maid would get the worst of the punishments. It really was quite unfair, though Alice is suppose to keep Elizabeth out of trouble if the Princess wanted to do something Alice had no power to say otherwise and had to go along with it, which often got the poor girl in trouble.
Still, Alice was very glad for her friend. Even though their social standings were so far off Elizabeth refused to think of Alice of anything but her best and closest friend, Alice had benefits most maids don't and probably has more say in the government than most rich Lords and Ladies.
"Have a seat Alice, I'll have the maids bring up some tea." Elizabeth said and snapped her fingers. As if just waiting (which wasn't far off) for the Princess to order them, two maids ushered into the room and quickly bowed to Elizabeth before resuming a upright position with their heads bent down in submission.
"Yes mi'lady." The two maids said in unison.
"Please fetch Alice and I some tea please," Elizabeth said kindly. The two maids flashed her a smiled and retreated out the room, their soft foot steps could be heard rushing down the hall way before disappearing for good.
"Mi'la- I mean Elizabeth," Alice corrected herself. "I don't mean a bother but I don't like tea. Can't stand the stuff."
Elizabeth's mouth formed a wide 'o'. "Oh my gosh Alice! I completely forgot, I'm such an idiot! I'll have the maids fetch some hot chocolate than, would you prefer that?"
