Rahul

"She is so small," I whisper cradling our baby in my arms, "she's got your eyes though." I smile at Leyla who's eyes are drooping.
"And you were convinced we were having a boy," she laughs quietly and I shake my head. I was totally convinced it'd be a boy but I'm glad it's a girl. This way she looks more like Leyla, same eyes, same nose but my lips!
"What shall we call her?" I ask placing my fat finger into the outstretched hand of our baby. She clings onto it like it's the only thing keeping her alive.
"Hmm," Leyla mumbles as her eyes close. I smile. I guess being in labour for six hours would knock all the energy out of you. I think it would be fitting to name her after Leyla's mum but I don't want to broach the subject in case it upsets Leyla. I mean she's only just come to terms with the surprise from the engagement party and the date of our wedding.

"Rahul," Leyla mumbles summoning me with her hand. I perch on the edge of her bed leaning back next to her as she rests her head on my lap as I continue to cradle our baby. We look exactly like a family right now and it's more than I could have ever wanted. I'm so ready to promise myself to Leyla that I wish our wedding day would just happen tomorrow.
"Erm," I look up as a familiar voice wafts into the room, "I heard there was a little girl around." Ajay shuffles around the doorway of the hospital room awkwardly.
"Yeah," I mumble, "um do you want to hold her?" I don't know what went wrong between Ajay and I? Ever since I first met him we just had an air of tension around us.
"Really?" Ajay seems shocked that I've even offered him the opportunity but Leyla is his cousin and so doesn't that make our baby his niece in a way? I mean I know Leyla would want her cousin involved in our babies life even if in the past they have not always agreed. Ajay wanders across the room and holds his arms out for the sleeping baby. I carefully pass her over to him and watch as his eyes soften at the sight of her peaceful face.
"Whilst your here," I say bracing myself for what's about to come out my mouth, "I just want to apologise for some of the things I've said to you and for creating like all that tension." Ajay nods appreciatively.
"I'm sorry too," Ajay mutters, "I shouldn't have hit you. I just don't want to lose my place in this world."

"Hey you'll always be Leyla's cousin," I say, "she'll always need you for something. Looks like it might be babysitting soon." Ajay smiles.
"You really think she'll forgive me for ruining your engagement?" Ajay asks pursing his mouth.
"Mmm of course I do but can you two bromance elsewhere?" Leyla laughs sleepily turning over.
"Wouldn't go far as bromance," Ajay laughs making me laugh too. No we're definitely not a bromance! I mean it has taken a lot of effort to actually apologise to Ajay after he managed to upset Leyla so much, but forgive and forget!
"She's cute though, don't you think?" I talk about the baby and Ajay nods looking at her face.
"Got any names yet?" He asks rocking her gently. I look over to check Leyla's sleeping.
"Jaya," I say making Ajay stop moving for a moment.
"I like that," he smiles still staring intently at the baby, "Jaya." I smile. It does suit her.
