Long ago in an age where Giants, Dragons, and Spirits walked the land causing chaos and destruction where ever they went and the many nations of man warred against one another, there was a small village in the mountains. In this village there was a born a child; this child was said by all to possess the eyes of the Hawk, for with a bow in hand he would never fail to hit his mark. This child's name was Yuan.
One day while playing in the forest, Yuan came across a mysterious man clothed in crimson robes carrying a staff that smelt of Figs. The man turned to Yuan and told him of his destiny was out in the world and soon his destiny would appear before him.
Over the years the boy Yuan became a man, he left his home seeking his destiny out in the world. With his bow in hand he created a name for himself as a slayer of monsters and queller of spirits. In his travels he slew many different threats to man; a man-eating giant, a one-eyed dragon, and a tyrannical mountain spirit.
During his travels Yuan came to river, in this river was a deadly river spirit with the body of giant serpent. Coiled within the tail of the spirit was a young woman. Without a second thought Yuan dashed in to protect the young woman. Drawing his bow and arrow he squared off against the spirit, in a loud voice he called out to the spirit, proclaiming 'I am Yuan the slayer of beasts of spirits, turn from your wicked ways, release the woman and flee or draw your last breath.' The spirit refused to back down barring its fangs against Yuan. Loosing the arrow from his bow the arrow fly passed the spirit grazing its scales; in that moment the spirit feared for its life repented, released the woman and fled.
Yuan turned to the young woman extending his hand to help her. Upon their eyes meeting Yuan became immediately taken with her beauty. The young woman introduced herself as Fen. On the spot he asked for her hand in marriage. The young woman replied to proposal saying 'I am flattered by your earnest and sincere proposal but I cannot marry you. I am duty bound by my tribesmen, I am to seek the home of Fusun in the forest of Ash and then the World tree, my mission is of the utmost importance'. Right away Yuan dropped to one knee vowing to escort her to the home of Fusun and protect her on her mission. The two together departed making their way to the Forest of Ash.
While on their travels the two came across a small village. Passing through the village the Yuan and Fen had seen the village had become desolate; the crops withered to ash, the rivers and waters dried up, the soil had become ash white like bone. The people and animals suffered from exhaustion and collapsed from the intense heat that choked the air.
The two spoke with the elder and learned of a spirit whose ten sons the Solarcrows who would travel across the sky each day one at a time to eat the fruit of the world tree, when they traveled across the sky the sun would shine brightly. The elder told the two that the ten Solarcrows grew tired of waiting nine days to travel the sky and so took to traveling all at once, this change led to the sun becoming unbearably intense, bringing the village to its current state. With the crops gone, the waters dried up and the soil dried up the village and its people began to starve.
Yuan angered by the careless actions of the Solarcrows went to go stop them, leaving behind Fen to care for the villagers. Yuan climbed the highest mountain and waited for the Solarcrows to pass by. As the Solarcrows flew across the sky Yuan Shot several arrows at the crows. He called out to them saying 'Stop your foolish actions, because of you ten flying across the sky the people here are endanger of dying.' The Solarcrows laughed at him, the ten crows saying 'We are not mortals, why should we care if a few of them suffer and die. Why should we suffer and starve while they live?'
Enraged by their indifference climbed the mountain the next day and waited again for them to pass. As the crows flew close, Yuan nocked an arrow, took aim, steadied his arm focused all his effort on the crows. Loosing the arrow, it flew straight piercing the side of one of the Solarcrows. With a single arrow he brought down the crow. Every day for nine days straight he shot down the Solarcrows one by one. On the tenth day the last crow cried out to Yuan 'You have slain my brothers, for their deaths my father and I will have our vengeance. Just wait and see.' With its final words the crow flew off into the distance far from sight.
