The abomination of a house rests in front of me. The alien that I'm now suppose to call home sits there, waiting for its chambers to be explored and be filled with life. I breathe and try to take in all of my surroundings. The ugly pale yellow paint blends in with the grey sky and the surrounding houses. It reminds me of the house in the movie Monster House except it's not old, that ugly or alive. To my left are other alienated houses. To my right are more houses and all of our boxes. I stare down at my red high top Converse and the green grass that reminds me of the parks I use to play in as a child.
"Ashley, what's wrong? Don't you like it? Aren't you happy that I finally got a job?" My mother puts her hand on my shoulder and she tries reading my face.
I look up into her eyes. Her dark green eyes tell me that she desperately wants me to be happy."Yeah. I'm just so excited that I don't know what to do first," I say with a smile on my face as I try to fight back tears.
"Well you can start by exploring the house and taking some boxes inside to your room." She looks at the boxes and then back at me. Her face shows signs of horror and excitement. She does full teeth creepy as fuck smile before pushing towards the boxes. I almost trip into a box. I look for a box contains most of my favorite things. I pick up the box and walk toward the door. Before I enter, I glance back at my mother who is talking to the movers.
The inside of the house is like a black hole. I struggle to look for the light switch. I bang my hand against something. I continue walking and I find a switch. I look around to find that I'm in a closet. Great. Just great. The small light coming from the closet illuminates just enough outside that I find the switch.
The red carpet on the floor darkens the room. The tacky neon orange wall don't help out much either.
*I'm not done yet. Leave comments and that good mushy stuff in the comments.
