A full moon floated over as the WindClan cats traveled toward the Gathering Island. Stars dotted the crow-like black sky, shining along with the moon and shedding light down onto the moor. The light that emitted from the white sphere in Silverpelt turned the grass in the moor a light, sparkly silver.
Emberpaw had paused to admire the beauty of his territory as his Clanmates slid past him. Finally, his sister, who he'd found out is now Cloverheart, stopped beside him. "Just you wait until we get out there!" she boasted, her head high. "I'm a warrior now! I'm gonna show them all-.."
Emberpaw stopped listening and turned to pad on, seeing as his Clan had pulled ahead of him and his sister. Yet, she still kept on babbling in her ear, bouncing on her paws like a kit.
Finally, he'd had enough and turned on her. "I don't care that you're a warrior!" he hissed. "Do you even care that I'm not a warrior with you? It's been our dream since we were kits! But all you care about is recognition, don't you? You don't even care that I wasn't made a warrior only because your rabbit-brained mentor treated me unfairly!" He paused for breath, his eyes burning. "But you know what? You go and enjoy your Gathering as a warrior, and I'll try and enjoy mine." He whipped around and darted after his Clan, leaving Cloverheart standing there, guilt in her gaze. He didn't care. She should feel guilty for rubbing her warrior name in his face.
He eventually fell into step with Softgorse, his fur still standing. She must've noticed it because she pointed it out. "Emberpaw, are you alright?"
The grey apprentice shook his head. "I should be traveling to this Gathering with my warrior name.." he muttered angrily. "Not my apprentice name.." His tail whipped behind him, his fur bristling.
Softgorse let out a soft sigh, her tail tip resting on his shoulder as she padded beside him. "I know," she soothed. "Just.. try and enjoy yourself." She looked at him, her gaze serious. "You'll show them all one day."
Emberpaw sat in the center of the clearing beside Softgorse, who was murmuring softly to a ShadowClan warrior. The gray apprentice twitched his ear, pretending not to hear them, but he slowly began to pick up their words.
"Tigerpaw just became a warrior," the white ShadowClan tom murmured. "Tigerwhisker. I could see him taking my place as deputy someday." He paused. "Oh, how's Emberpaw? Did he get his warrior name?"
The WindClan apprentice felt his mentor tense beside him. "Well, no.." she sighed after a moment's pause. "Something came up.." He'd heard enough. The apprentice stalked off to the side of the clearing and crouched under the shade of a bush.
He found himself gazing around at the cats gathered. He noticed that RiverClan had yet to arrive and the leaders that sat upon the Great Rock, their tails flicking impatiently. He then glowered at his sister as he noticed her standing before a few of the their Gathering friends, her chest puffed out.
She's already forgotten what I've told her.. he thought, his chest tightening. He pinned his ears back and dragged his gaze away from them, setting his head on his paws. He stared at the soil before his nose, ears twitching as flies buzzed around them.
Doesn't matter.. As Softgorse said, I'll show them all.. Some day..
