***Hello again, I don't really have much to say about this one except that it may be shorter than my other one shots. I hope you enjoy some time with Cas. :) -SF16***

"It's a what?"

You giggled as Cas stared at the ball of fluff in your lap with confusion.

"It's a cat. Well, in this case, a kitten."

He squinted his eyes and tilted his head, continuing to stare at the creature. It had never occurred to you that Cas may not know about cats or something so simple as a washing machine. You smiled fondly at the memory of the first time Cas was around when the washing machine was on. You were both watching Finding Nemo in your room when Cas heard the rumble of the machine through your wall. He had thought that the bunker was being attacked somehow and that the sound through the wall meant the walls were going to cave in.

It took a few minutes but you convinced him that everything was fine and showed him the laundry room that was connected to your room. He was cautious of it at first but after deciding that it was safe, he sat there for 20 minutes staring at it like a child looking at candy.

It amuses you to the little things that Cas doesn't understand. Cats, being on of them.

"But I don't understand."

You smile while petting the small kitten and looking at Cas fondly. "What do you not understand?"

His brow furrowed and he tilted his head to the other side watching the kitten intently.

"I don't understand the appeal of this creature. Why do humans keep them as pets?"

You laugh and shake your head. "Well, first of all they are so adorable. Plus they are really soft. Like really really soft." Cas looks up at you with a look that says, "It can't be that soft" before staring at the kitten again. You were about to speak again and explain why cats are so awesome but your cell phone rang. You sighed and placed the kitten on your bed gently before getting up.

"Y/N! Where are you going? You can't leave me alone with it!" Cas said frantically.

"Cas, calm down it's okay. I'm just getting my phone."

You grabbed your phone from your dresser and sat back down on your bed and placing the white and grey kitten back in your lap as Cas watched it with caution.

You opened your phone and answered it. "Hello?"

A gruff voice rand through the other end. "Hey, kid. How are things holding up?"

"Hey, Dean. Things are fine but um, I have a surprise for you and Sam when you get back. Please don't kill me. I promise I'll take care of it."

There was a long pause on the other end.

"Y/N. Please tell me you did not get a dog."

You roll your eyes. "I'm not that stupid, Dean. I know you hate dogs. But you never said anything about kittens, and I couldn't just leave the little guy outside in the cold."

"Y/N-"

"Anyways, I'm getting an other call. Later, Dean."

"Wait! Don't you dare hang-"

You ended the call before tossing your phone on the bed next to you and cooing at the kitten. You glanced up at Cas before looking back down to the kitten.

"Do you want to hold it, Cas?"

Cas's eyes widened and he scooted further away on the bed so that his back was against the head board.

"I don't think that would be a wise decision."

"Nonsense." You laughed as you picked up the kitten gently and placed it in Cas's lap. He tensed up and stared down at the fluff ball. The kitten looked up at Cas before meowing and curling up into his side under his trench coat.

"Aww, I think it likes you, Cas."

Cas looked down at the fuzzy creature before smiling softly. "You think so?"

You smile back at him. "Yeah, I do."

"Come on, Dean. Calm down. It's not that big of a deal." Sam tried to reason with his brother as they entered the bunker.

"Not a big deal? She brought home a pet, Sam!" Dean huffed out before tossing his gear bag on one of the library tables. Sam followed his lead and set down his bag before turning to Dean.

"She'll take care of it, Dean. It's not a big deal. Just hear her out before you go yelling at her."

Dean rolled his eyes before stomping off towards your room. Sam followed behind with a sigh.

Dean threw open your bedroom door ready to give you hell but instead found you curled up into Cas's side. Both of you asleep while the ending credits to the movie rolled on the television. Then he spotted the kitten. It was curled up in a ball resting peacefully on Cas's chest. It must have sensed the brothers standing in the door way because it opened it's eyes and when it's gaze landed on them it let out a soft meow before jumping off of Cas's and onto the floor, making it's way over to the boys.

It stared up at Dean before rubbing up against his legs, purring. Dean sighed as he stared at the kitten, forgetting his anger. Sam laughed as he watched his brother become smitten with the tiny creature.

"Still angry she brought home the kitten, Dean?" Sam laughed softly. Dean glared at Sam over his shoulder before scooping up the kitten and placing it on the bed.

Sam smirked at his brother. "Dude, you've got a soft spot for kittens."

"Shut up, Sammy."
