In a small town that not many people have heard of, there lives a girl who has been through more than most kids her age. She is 16, and this is her story.

My name is Ashleigh; I live at home with my mum Kirsty, Dad Dave, my sister Olivia and my younger brother Jarrod. I go to a public school called Drouin Secondary College, I have a hard time at this school my so called ‘Best-friends’ tease and bash me every day and when I get home my parents ask me what happened and I just say I fell over at school because I’m scared that if I tell my parents they will want to move towns. I have lived here as long as I can remember, I love it here and if I move it wouldn’t be the same. My sister and little brother go to Drouin Primary, Olivia is in grade 6 and Jarrod is in grade; each day I walk from my school to theirs and we walk home together.

On this particular day, it was a Wednesday, and I’ll never forget it. I picked up Olivia and Jarrod like usual, and on our way home they told me all about their day at school as they held my hands. We got home and something didn’t feel right, my mum is usually in the kitchen cooking dinner and dad in usually out the back cleaning his shed, but mum wasn’t in the kitchen and dad wasn’t in the shed. I told Olivia and Jarrod to go to their rooms just in case there was someone in the house. They hid while I looked for my parents I walk into the back lounge and find blood splattered all over the walls and ceiling. I see my mum and dad laying there in a pool of their own blood, their faces unrecognisable because of the multiple stab wounds; but I knew they were my mum and dad.

I was devastated, scared and shaken, I got the house phone and called the police and told them that my parents have been brutally murdered, whilst I was waiting for the police to show up I quickly run into my sisters and brothers room to get them out of the house.as we get outside the police are in the drive way walking up towards the door, I told Olivia and Jarrod to go wait outside and wait so they don’t see mum and dad laying there dead with blood everywhere. As I turned around looking at my sister and brother all I see are tears running down their face it just breaks my heart to see them miserable and just broken without our parents, it’s going to be really hard not having my parents here anymore, I don’t even know how I’m going to look after Jarrod and Olivia. Everything has happened so fast to the point I have no idea what to do anymore.

While the police are inside looking for evidence I’m sitting at the front door in tears, when they were finished looking for evidence the two police men came up to my sister, brother and I to tell us that they were going to make a donation for us to be able to pay for the funeral and as I heard those words come out of that police men’s mouth I felt so overwhelmed and happy that they are going to do that for us. They told us that the coroners are only 5 minutes away so they can take my parents away so they aren’t just lying there forever.

5 minutes have passed and they arrive at my house to get rid of my parents, when they rolled them out on the stretches I asked if I could see them for one last time, they unzipped the body bag so I could see them for the very last time and when I looked at them just lying there I honestly could not recognize them. As they took them away Olivia, Jarrod and I just broke down in tears. I got my brother and sister and just hugged them so tight and told them that everything is going to be okay and that I ‘m going to support them no matter how hard it’s going to be.

It’s been 2 years since my parents have been gone for now, we were able to afford the funeral for mum and dad and everything is going well Jarrod is in grade 6 and Olivia is in year 8 and doing great!.

This has been my story and hope you have liked it.
