Emilie lay beside me, her head tucked into my chest and her fingers interlaced with my own. I brushed a stray hair from her face and tucked it behind her ear. She smiled and pressed her cheek against my palm, her hand lightly tracing shapes onto my rib.
We had been in a relationship for three years now. I blew some air onto her face and she crinkled her nose at my morning breath.
Sighing she rolled out of my arms and flung the covers off the bed. My arms felt colder now stripped from their warmth. As she sauntered to the bathroom to get ready for another day my eyes were trained to her.
She could never fully meet my eyes when I told her how beautiful she was, she would slap my arm playfully and kiss my cheek. Emilie was the most beautiful thing to me, at first it was simply raw attraction that drew me to her, she was not too thin but there was something about the way she held herself and showed off her beautiful body that drew me to her. It was later that I found other parts of her more attractive, the way her fingers moved when she was explaining things, her eyes that shone when talking to me, the way she always smiled brilliantly up at me and made my stomach twist, that was when I knew I was doomed.
Groaning I rolled out of bed, Emilie had placed her clothes ready for when she was out of the shower. I kicked the clothes to the side so I could brush my teeth, glancing down I saw her jeans. A sigh escaped my lips, my thoughts went back to when we were watching T.V the other day. She was in my arms again laughing at the characters running around, it was then when I held her that I felt she had gained a little weight, the jeans though not noticeable to the eye were tighter. It was just some her stomach spilling slightly over the edges of the pants and filling out her shirt more, I still thought she looked beautiful but I noticed she opted to wear large hoodies to try and hide it.
Smiling I finished brushing my teeth, she ran out of the shower towel wrapped around her, I caught her back in my arms and kissed her wet hair. She squealed not expecting the sudden contact but when she realised what it was she relaxed in my arms. She tilted her head up and her green eyes glazed over. I lowered my face so our lips touched. It was a tender kiss, we were both still tired after waking up and she had been very stressed lately, she smiled into my lips breaking the kiss.
She playfully pushed me away but in the process the towel slipped, gasping at the sudden cold air she grabbed for the towel but not before my eyes caught the shape of her stomach. My blood ran cold.
My eyes flickered back to her.
She now had the towel back in place. Her eyes met mine questioning, moving towards her I placed my hand on her stomach. This is why she was gaining weight. Her eyes shone once more this time the kiss that followed was not only one of love but of a lasting promise.
