I was packing up all the things I needed for my family's annual trip. Every year we go to a different city in California and stay for most of the summer. Last year we went to Santa Cruz and it was absolutely beautiful.
I thought I was going to find a cute boy to at least flirt with while we were there but I basically just laid out at the beach and tanned the entire time.
This year we're going to Huntington Beach and I don't know very much about it except that it's going to be very warm. I finished packing up all my stuff and walked downstairs with my bags.
"Are you ready sweetie?" My mom asks.
I just nod and smile in agreement. We all hop in the car and we're on our way.
The whole ride to Huntington I had my headphones in my ears and I was mouthing the words to all of the songs that played.
We finally pulled up to the beach house we were renting out. It was so beautiful and as I pulled my headphones out of my ears, I picked up my phone and got out of the car.
We all walked into the house and it was gorgeous. It had a really nice kitchen and all kinds of furniture. I was very impressed to say the least.
I knew the first thing I wanted to do was head to the beach for some tanning. It only gets sunny for about a week out of the year where I live and it's not even during the summer it's during fall so when I'm in a sunny place I have to tan.
I walked out of the house and around the back to see the boardwalk and just past that was the beach.
"Eww get the hell away from me you weirdo!" I hear a girl scream and I turn around to see a boy being pushed to the ground by a girl who's half his size.
"Don't ever talk to me. You don't deserve any of my time." She walked off with her friends laughing.
I ran over to him. "Hey are you ok?" I ask and hold out my hand to help him up.
"Yeah. I guess I just don't have very good coordination," he says trying to play it off.
"I saw what just happened. You didn't fall."
"Sorry you saw that. You must think I'm a freak," he says and looks at the ground.
For the first time I see what he really looks like. He's a few inches taller than I am, short spiky brown and blonde hair, muscly, and then I look up to see his eyes. They are so beautiful. I got lost.
"I... I don't think you're a freak at all," I say and smile.
"I'm Drew by the way."
"Everyone calls me sunshine," I say proud of my nickname.
"Beautiful."
"Hey I'm gonna go tan wanna come with me?" He smiles and agrees.
We walk over to the beach and find the perfect spot. We lay out the beach blanket I brought, thank goodness it's big enough for both of us. I take off my shorts leaving myself in my bikini and then spray sunscreen all over my body and hand it to him so he can do the same.
He hands it back and says, "Thanks. So I've never seen you around here."
"Yeah. Atually my parents and I are here on vacation. Every year we go to a different city in California just for the summer. We live up on the central coast," I explain to him as I lay down on the blanket.
"That's really cool," he says and smiles at me knowing I'm looking at him from underneath my sunglasses. How could I not look at him? He was breath-taking to say the least.
"After were done tanning you wanna go get some smoothies?" He asks and I can't help but wonder if this is like a first date.
"Like a date? I'd love to," I say and smile with my bright white teeth.
Drew's POV
I can't believe how bold this girl is being. Kind of a turn on. Not to mention beautiful with the soft curls of her brown hair, her golden caramel brown eyes, her long legs, and that confidence she has. She could knock a guy down from a mile away.
We finish tanning, she puts all her stuff in her bag, and we go up to the boardwalk to an awesome smoothie place.
"You're gonna love this I promise. What do you wanna get?"
"I'll have an apple pomegranate smoothie," she says and her voice is like velvet.
"I'll just have a guava mango smoothie thanks," I say and pay for the smoothies.
We drink our smoothies and talk until were red in the face from laughing so hard.
She gets up to leave and says, "So I guess I'll see you around." She smiles as she says it and I'm at a loss for words.
I suddenly get a burst of courage, "Could I have your number so we can hang out again some time?"
"Of course," she says and smiles. We exchange phones and put in our numbers.
She leaves and I watch her as she goes. I walk back to Wes and Keaton's house knowing I have to tell them everything.
