Chapter Two

It was him. I knew it was just a matter of time before he showed up. I didn’t know how I managed to keep standing when I was sure the knocking of my knees could be heard from a mile away.

“I’ve been waiting for you, Eva,” Allen snarled. I could smell the alcohol on his breath. His eyes were bloodshot, but the fire I saw in them were not from being drunk. “I’ve missed you.”

He reached to touch my face but I stepped back. He was surprised, as was I.

“Man, you’ve had better looking days, haven’t ya?” he asked, chuckling. “If you hadn’t been cheating on me, Eva, you wouldn’t have got hurt.”

“I. Never. Cheated. On. You.”

“Oh, so you’re saying that Misty was lying to me?” his voice was starting to get angrier.

That bitch had been wanting Allen forever. I just knew that she started this lie to get him. Well, she can have him.

“Yes,” I said, straightening myself up. “And it’s apparent that you’ve always believed everyone else over me. So, I’m not going to stand here and argue over this same bullshit with you today. We’ve already finished. We are finished.”

Wherever that sudden “courage” came from, shouldn’t have. My mouth met his fist, sending me stumbling back. If the couch hadn’t been there, I would’ve fallen on the floor. I tasted blood. Even in his drunken state, if I tried to run, he’d catch me and body slam me. I seriously wouldn’t be able to handle that right now.

Before I could move, he was in front of me.

“You should know better than to get lippy with me, bitch,” he snarled. Then he backhanded me, this time I fell on the floor. I saw stars. I didn’t look back at him, but I felt him standing over me. I yelped when he grabbed me by the arms and flipped me over, slamming me on the floor. I thought I was going to pass out when my head made a cracking sound against the tile. He then got on his knees, using them to pin both my arms down. I tried to keep my eyes open, but looking away from him. He then cupped my jaw in his hand, his fingers and thumb tightening their grip. “Just admit that you fucking cheated on me with my best friend, and I’ll forget that it ever happened.”

“I n-never ch-cheated o-on y-you with any-anyone,” I managed to sputter while gasping to breathe. “P-please, Allen.”

“You know I hate it when you lie to me, Eva.” I saw him raise a fist. I braced myself for the incoming pain. Then I heard an earsplitting yell.

“You son of a bitch! Get off her!” Pippa!

I felt Allen’s legs let off my arms. I watched as he struggled to get up with Pippa on his back, punching on him.

“Get off me, you crazy ass bitch!”

I didn’t know how Pippa managed to hold on, but she did, all the while hitting him wherever she could and screaming every obscenity in the book. Allen was swinging around like a wild animal trying very hard to get a good hold of her. My breath caught when he finally slammed her backwards against the wall by the front door. I heard Pippa scream “Oww!” and grunted as he repeated the same move until she let go of him and dropped on the floor, catching her breath.

“What the fuck are you trying to prove, bitch?! Now, you’re going to pay!” Allen raised his fist to hit her.

I didn’t know where I got that sudden burst of energy from, but I jumped from where I was and pushed him away from her. Having the body of a bodybuilder, it was like slamming myself against the wall when my body connected with his. He did stumble backwards but I fell on my ass. He laughed maniacally as I scrambled to Pippa’s side.
