If you are interested in stories with happy endings, you would be better off reading some other book. In this book, not only is there no happy ending, there is no happy beginning and very few happy things in the middle. This is because not very many happy things happened in Blair Paterson's life. She was extremely unlucky, and most everything that happened her was rife with misfortune, misery, and despair. I'm sorry to tell you this, but that is how the story goes. Her misfortune began one day at George Washington High School.
"I thought we agreed to trash that video?" Emma questioned our group of friends. "She was bound to come out one day. Look at her." Brooke comments shrugging her shoulders. "What's the big deal if she is a lesbian?" Jake asked. "Okay, the big deal is it wasn't her decision to tell the world." Emma answered making Jake scoff. "I thought it was kind of hot." I say pursing my lips and checking my phone. "Jake?" Emma questioned completely ignoring my comment. "I wasn't the only one on that group thread. And I did delete the video, after I sent it to Pj." I stifle a laugh getting a glare from Emma. "Girl on girl is his demographic." Jake chuckles punching will on the arm. "Riley?" Em asked with disappointment in her voice. "Sorry. Zoe saw it on my phone." Riley answered making Brooke roll her eyes. "Blair?" Emma looked up and me. "I wasn't even there remember? I was at Lexie's." I answered raising my hands up in defense. I completely zone out until I hear my sisters name. "I don't see Nina anywhere." Riley says moving her arms around. "You know she did the wide release." Will commented making Riley scoff. "I have to go do something before class." I get up waking off before anyone could ask questions.
"Caveman made fires. Those fires cast shadows, and these shadows created fear. Men have been obsessed with scaring each other ever since." Mr. Branson spoke as he wrote on the chalk bored. "His names Kieran Wilcox. He just moved her from Atlanta." Brooke whispered gaining my attention. "I thought you weren't into high school guys." Jake whispered leaning up. "No, that was just you." Brooke replied sassily making my giggle. "Brooke. Would you please tell us which genre originated with The Castle of Otranto?" Mr. Brandon questioned making Brooke look up. She cleared her throat. "The castle genre?" She replied unsure. "The gothic genre." The new kid answered. "Thank you. Guys, look, I get it. Nobody wants to sit around reading 500 dusty pages about monks and curses. But nobody's forcing you to watch The Walking Dead." Branson explained. "Ooh! Is The Walking Dead on the midterm?" Jake raised his hand. I reached over slapping him on the arm. "Ouch." He whispered rubbing his arm glaring at me. I stuck my tongue out at him like I use to do when I was a kid. "Zombies are not literature, Jake." Emma replied with a grin on her face. "Why not?" Pretty boy and I questioned at the same time. "George Romero, Horace Walpole, it's all the same bones." He continued. "Or the same rotting flesh." Branson added crossing his arms. "Kieran's right. Gothic genre is all over TV right now. You have American Horror Story. You have Bates Motel, Hannibal."
"What about Texas Chainsaw or Halloween?" Jake asked gesturing towards Branson. "Those are slasher movies." I scoffed making Jake give me the "wtf" look. "You can't do a slasher movie as a TV series." Some kid added on and I turned around to look at him. "Well, think about it. You know, girl and her friends arrive at the dance, the camp, the deserted town, whatever. Killer takes them out one by one. Ninety minutes later, the sun comes up as survivor girl's sitting in the back of the ambulance watching her friends bodies being wheeled past." I sit up becoming intrigued. "Slasher movies burn bright and fast. TV needs to stretch things out. You know, by the time the first body's found, It's only a matter of time before the bloodbath commences."
I ran to the bathroom right when I heard the news about my sister. I locked myself in a stall sobbing quietly. I heard someone walk in so I got up slowly. "Hello?" I questioned walking out of the stall. "I didn't see you with your friends so I came in here. I wanted to see if you were okay?" Audrey I think that's her name asked. I started crying again. "No, I'm not okay." I walked over wrapping my arms around her. She hesitated at first but hugged back. "It's all my fault. I should have been there I could have saved her." I sobbed into her shoulder as she rubbed my back. "Hey, listen it's not your fault. You couldn't have known that was gonna happen. Don't blame yourself." She said pulling away and wiping the tears away with her thumbs. "You're a really nice person thank you for checking on me." I smiled wiping my eyes with the sleeve of my shirt. "No problem." She smiled back. "You should go. You don't have to stay in here with me i'll be fine." I chocked out trying not to cry anymore. She started to walk away. "But before you go I wanted to apologize for the whole video thing." She looked up at me. "It's fine you don't have to apologize you didn't do it."
