CHAPTER 8
"He's a good kid Lea, stay with him, you'll be safer" My dad's voice echoes in my head as the pack doctor examines my wound. I sit on my bed as time and space become irrelevant in my world.
"Malia, are you with me?" Roman's voice pulls me back to the bitter reality.
"I think she's still in shock." Emery points out with a hushed tune.
Feeling too tired to utter a word; I stare at them with empty eyes. As Emery and Matt look fixedly at each other, Roman takes the risk of taking a seat right next to me. "He wouldn't have wished for you to be like this" He places his palm on my shoulder.
"You know that we're here for you right? We will never allow you to be alone." Matt's gentle yet pitiful voice assures my broken soul, pity; the reason why I hate to show any sigh of being frail. They don't get to pity me! They have lost people too; they've had dark periods in their lives. But then again, they don't have their own blood on their tail craving to put them in a casket.
At that thought I scream; I scream for my dad, for my mum, for Raphael, and for myself. I scream for the peacefulness that has relinquished my chest. I collapse to the floor as heartache and chagrin expend me. "Malia, calm down, just try to breathe. You'll be okay. I relate to what you're going through. I promise you it will get better. You just have to breathe" Roman tries to kneel down beside me, but I prevent him by standing up to face all three of them.
"No, don't. Just... don't!" I order him with such mixed up feelings. "You say you're here for me? That I'll never be alone? Well guess what, I already am! My mum is dead, my dad is dead, and I'm encompassed by people who I hardly know, people I don't trust."
"Don't say that Malia, we're you're fam..."
"Don't you dare finish that sentence, or I swear to the goddess I'll show things even you're brother is incapable of doing. Do you understand me? You're not my family Emery, and you will never be." I can see her shrinking at my threat, but myself conscious is long gone.
"My family died. They died protecting me. And why did that happen? Because they loved me; because they were so passionate to protect me." Roman makes another attempt to reach out to me, but I just won't have it. "You know what? I believe this was a wakeup call; to never repeat the same iniquity once again."
"Same iniquity? Malia what are you talking about?" Roman responds with a calm voice, it angers me even more. "The inequity of love, passion, and happiness; they are just roads that go nowhere. They're dead-ends. They never last; they always disappear with time leaving nothing but desolation."
"That's not true Malia, you know it's not. Particularly for us; werewolves, you can't permit yourself to ratify that, not when you have a mate not when you have Roman." Matt aims at persuading me, but fails.
