Pale blue eyes stared back at me against a pale face. White-blonde hair whipped around the withdrawn face, dark circles had formed under the once bubbly eyes.
I reached out to touch the face which belonged to a small girl, no older than six, but as soon as I got within arms length she vanished. The only thing that remained was a whisper.
A feather light whisper that lingered in the air for no longer than an instant.
"Gabriel..."
Gabriel?
In all my life I had only known one Gabriel, a classmate in kindergarten that stuffed erasers up his nose.
Doubtful he had anything to do with the message.
There was also the girl... Where did I know her from?
She looked nothing like me of course, nothing as spectacular as a past self coming to the me now, with my straight light brown hair and blue green eyes.
I woke from the strange dream as my cell phone buzzed beside me.
I reached over and picked it up off the purple bedspread.
An oh-so-happy message from Carla greeted me.
"Where the H E double hockey sticks are you?!?"
Oh what a great morning already.
Carla, my best friend since third grade when she transferred to our small school in good ol' Nebraska from Houston, Texas, thought swearing was one if the worst things a person could do. Although, when she gets worked up its enough to top a sailor at their finest.
Where am I? It's 8:30 in the morning on the first day of summer break! I'm where every sane minded person who's 14 is right now.
In. Bed.
Then of course it hit me.
The store.
CRAP.
The store, technically called Stop In ( I know so creative) was just a small building on the edge of town where you could by things such as candy bars and soda, bubble gum, beef jerky and Chapstick.
Impulse items.
Carla had volunteered us to work Mondays,Wednesday, and Thursdays for Brett, the 50 some year old man who owned it. I hadn't wanted to but hey, I made a little money off it at least.
"On my way" I lied typing out the message and pressing send.
I rolled put of bed and groaned as my neck popped. No time for a shower, I slipped out of my pajamas and pulled on under clothes and an old t shirt, jean shorts followed. I squirted on some perfume and rubbed on deodorant, hoping they'd do their job. I brushed my hair and pulled it back in a low ponytail.
I rubbed the last of the sleep from my eyes and yawned a little pulling on a black pair of flip-flops.
Time for summer to officially begin.
Yay.
* **More to come hopefully tomorrow!***
