A little girl, aged 9, with dark green eyes and pale ginger hair walked through town with her mother, Karen. The green-eyed girl wore a dark green summer dress that made her eyes pop.

Her mother wasn't so thin and had an infection in one of her ankles, a crutch supporting her as she leant into it. She had red-purple dyed hair that hit her shoulders and dark pink/red glasses. Because of her leg infection, she is classified as disabled.

The young girl wasn't thin but she wasn't big either, she was just in the middle, only slightly leaning towards the thinner side.

"Mummy... Why is that Pokèmon being put in the window?" The little girl asked her Mother, pointing at a depressed-looking Eevee that was being lowered into a glass case in a window of one of the town's shops.

"Well, Cheeky Monkey, the reason for that is because when someone doesn't want a Pokèmon, or simply can't care for it anymore, they give them to these shops to find new homes that will treat them properly." Karen replied to Shonagh, the little girl.

"Oh..." Shonagh sauntered for a minute before coming up with an idea.

She hesitated, knowing that if she asked this, the answer is probably going to be a no.

"Mummy?"

"Yes, Shonagh?" Karen asked, stopping to look at her daughter.

"What if we were to give a Pokèmon a loving home? I know you may say 'No' but I just-" The little girl continued to ramble about how she felt bad for the Pokemon that had been left by their former trainers.

"Shonagh, darling..." Shonagh quieted down, "Yes... We can get a Pokèmon."

Shonagh's Mother has thought long and hard over this, knowing Shonagh had always wanted her own very Pokemon. She wanted something quite cute and feminine for her daughter.

She'd had many battles with herself in the past but she thinks she knows which Pokèmon Shonagh will want.

They entered the shop as Karen saw Shonagh's eyes lighten up and a Cheshire Cat-like smile spread it's way across her face.

They spent an hour searching, not one of the Pokemon seemed to perk her interest. Shonagh was getting quite impatient and claustrophobic in the small shop with all different cases and cages in it.

Not once did Karen see the Pokèmon she thought Shonagh would like.

"Sorry, but the ones in the cages are all the ones we have." The man behind the counter apologised, feeling guilty.

Shonagh spotted something in the corner of her eye. She looked over, "Hm?"

There was a tiny kitten-like Pokèmon in the corner of the shop, looking down at the floor.

The little girl, having no fears, slowly walked over to the Pokemon in her black and white converse shoes. Her outfit didn't match at all.

"Hello... Would you like to be my new friend?" The little girl was intrigued by this Pokèmon, as if there was something about it that lured them closer together.

The Pokèmon felt that too.

"Skit?" The Pokèmon tilted it's head before jumping up into Shonagh's arms and nuzzling into her neck, purring as Shonagh scratched behind it's ears.

Shonagh walked over to the cashier, the Pokèmon still in her arms, and put a couple of £5 notes that she'd got from selling old things that she didn't want anymore on the counter. Where she was from, they'd call it a 'Boot Sale'.

Karen smiled at the two and put the remaining funds left to pay on the table before getting all of the Pokèmon's data and details that are crucial to know.

Karen thanked the cashier and they both watched and laughed as the Pokèmon and Shonagh played together.

"I think they'll be very close." The cashier smiled.

"Mhm. I think they'll do just great."

It was the Pokèmon her mother could never imagine her having...

A Skitty.
