When we got home, mother helped me unload the things I had bought into the house.
"How did everything go?" She asked, still happy. "Did you run into anyone while you were in town? Michael maybe?" She smiled, waiting for my reply. I thought for a minute. Should I tell her I saw Michael? I decided against it, because then she'll expect him to be coming over for dinner.
"Not Michael, but I did see Loretta." I said.
k"Oh really?"
"Yes, she's coming for dinner tonight."
My mother smiled again. She loves Loretta. Loretta is my best friend, she's actually like a sister. She's the closest thing to a sister I've ever had. It always makes mother happy for me to be around other people, she thinks the more people I'm around, the more of a chance I have to meet a man.
"That's wonderful Jasmine, what time will she be here?" she asked.
"7:00"
"Well it's 5:00 now, why don't you get washed up and help me with dinner?"
I nodded and gathered everything, including some more bandage and the cream Michael had given me, and took it upstairs to my room with me. I put everything away but hid the bandage and cream beneath my bed, just in case, so my mom won't see it and get suspicious. After, I washed my hands and fixed my hair again. I walked downstairs again and helped mother make dinner and set the table. The whole time, all I thought about was Michael. I've been thinking about him a lot lately. He's all I can think about, I can't get him out of my head. Mother and I made plates and set them on the table, and as soon as we were finished, we heard a knock on the door.
I walked to the door and opened it, and Loretta, her mother, and her father, walked in, followed by my father. Loretta smiled when she saw me and wrapped me into a huge hug. Everyone sat at the table. Loretta was on my left and mother was on my right. We gave thanks for our food and began to eat. We made small talk untill everyone was finished.
"Thank you Mrs. Copeland, dinner was wonderful." Loretta's mother said, standing up.
Mother nodded as Loretta's father stood up.
"Daddy, can I stay over?" Loretta asked.
"If it's okay with Mr. and Mrs. Copeland." he said, looking at daddy.
"Of course." Mother said. Daddy nodded and Loretta's parents left.
Everyone helped clean up and after Loretta and I went upstairs to my room. I sat on my bed and she followed suit.
"Loretta, I have to tell you something." I'm gonna tell her about Michael. I know she won't tell, and I really want to tell someone.
"What is it?"
"I met a boy."
"Really?" she asked happily. "When?"
"Yesterday. Oh Loretta, I wish you could see him, he's so handsome."
"Describe him." she said, smiling. She reminds me of mother.
"Well, he has beautiful, black curly hair. Amazing brown eyes, and the best smile I've ever seen."
"He sounds nice." she nudges me. "Is he tan?"
"Um, " I guess it's now or never."actually, he's darker than that...he's...black."
Loretta stares at me a moment, clearly shocked.
"Are you serious?" she asks quietly.
"Yes."
