I didn't expect to see her, not on this night, not at this party. She normally went out of her way to avoid parties. When we first met she was different than the other kids. She had brilliant red hair, and dressed differently than everyone else. She was beautiful. She had also vowed to never go to one of these parties. But that was four years ago. And high school changes people. So does breaking up with me, her boyfriend of three years, I suppose.
Back in the present, I watch her stunning red locks bounce up and down as she walked on the other side of the room, completely oblivious to my watching her.
God, she's so beautiful.
I smiled sadly to myself and took a sip of my drink. It still doesn't make any sense...why would she come to this party? But just like that, my question was answered.
I watched intently as the love of my life walks right into the waiting arms of the most popular boy at school, completely surrounded by the girls she used to despise. She had a smile on her face, but I couldn't quite decipher it.
I felt the entire universe start to spin uncontrollably and everything became unfocused as I watched the boy kiss her on the cheek lovingly.
I had lost her. I lost the one girl who helped me change for the better, who helped me look at the world differently, who had helped me get through all the tough times in my life. I had lost my Elizabeth.
