"ALICE! ALICE!" Nona called.

I stopped scrubbing and stood up. I straightened my raggedy dress.

"ALICE!" Nona called again. She rushed into the room. "Alice! I've been calling you!" She said sternly.

"Sorry Nona." I mumbled. I stood up straighter.

"Don't mumble." She told me sternly "did you clean the stairs liked I asked?" She asked me. I nodded.

"Good. Get ready you have another family to meet." She told me. I sighed.

See, I live in an orphanage. Ever since I was a baby. But not just any orphanage, Stars Adoption Center. This is where famous people come if they want to adopt. I'm twelve and I still haven't been adopted.

I sighed and picked up the bucket and brush. I dumped the water from the bucket into the tub and put the brush away. I went to the girls room, where girls from ages five to thirteen sleep and dress. I went to my bed and found a light pink, sleeveless, knee length dress with a white sash to go around my waist.

"Alice. You get to meet another family?" Little Amy said popping onto my bed.

"Sadly." I said.

"Sadly? Don't you want to get adopted?" She asked confused.

"No one wants a twelve year old. And I already have meet 23 families this month." I said showing her my wrist. Each time I meet a family/ star I draw a line on my wrist with a pen. At the end of the month I wash it off.

"You better not let Nona see that. You will be punished." Amy let me know. I shrugged and picked up the dress.

Amy was only 7. She came here when she was 5. She's the closest I have to a friend. The other girls are rude, annoying, and mean.

I quickly changed into the dress and tied the white sash around my waist. I went to the mirror and put my hair in a ponytail. I grabbed a white ribbon from the vanity and tied it in my hair. I looked at the reflection in the mirror. My blond hair tied up and the pink dress made me feel pretty for once in my life.

"Here's your shoes." Amy said holding up a pair of light pink flats with a bow on the front to match my dress. I smiled and took then from her. I stepped into them. I gave her a hug.

"Good luck." She whispered. I gave her a kiss on the forehead and made my way to the office.

"Alice! Hey! Alice!" Someone yelled as I made my down the long hall. I turned and saw Tommy. He tried to weave his way past the few people in the hall. I motioned him to come as I walked backwards down the hall. He ran up to me.

"You got another interview?" He asked looking at my outfit.

"Yea. My 24th." I said showing him my wrist. He smiled and nodded.

"Maybe they will adopt you." He said. Tommy was 14. He is like a big brother to me. He was always was there for me.

He arrived here when he was 1.

"I don't think so." I said.

"You never know. 24 is my lucky number." He said poking me on the nose.

"Don't get me dirty!" I told him wiping my nose. "Where have you been working?" I asked him.

"I've been in dish duty this month." He said.

Once you turn 10 you get a different chore every month. This month I was on floor duty.

"Well. I really better get to the office before Nona goes insane." I told him.

"Okay. Good luck my Alice in wonderland." He said hugging me. Since my name was Alice he had always called me Alice in wonderland. Which made sense because my favorite movie was always Alice in Wonderland.

I ran to down the hall to the office. I turned and ran into the office. I stopped short in the doorway. Sitting around the desk were five boys...
