"Good Morning Violet" Shannon the secretary chirped to me as I walked into the building. Her eyes warmly welcoming me as she sipped her Starbucks drink "Good Morning Shannon" I replied as I signed my name in on a chart as I did everyday. "Have a good day" I said as I walked up to the Junior Kindergarten's room. "You too dear" she replied. Shannon was a sweet woman, she looked about 25, but I never asked her. My mother always told me and my brother Mike to never ask a woman her age, as it was plain disrespect to some. Shannon had long brown hair that touched her waist, tan skin, brown eyes, and big glasses that sat on the bridge of her nose. She was your typical secretary, and she always wore conservative clothing.
I entered the room and walked into the small closet where me and my colleague Vickie put our belongings. No one was in the room yet so I decided to set up on my own. Usually I was the first one there and Vickie would be late and arrive after the kids, but I was always early for everything and hated to be looked at as lazy or unprofessional.
Our Day Care was right beside the children's school so parents who had work early in the morning would drop their kid off here. We give them breakfast, made by the nuns that stay here. And then at 8:25AM me or Vickie bring them to school. At 3:30Pm, Vickie picks them up until 6:30PM when their parents pick them up. During the middle of the day I sometimes do volunteer work with the baby's that stayed all day until 6:00PM. They pay me when I do, which is strange because it is voluntary but it works good for me. Everyone looked at me as if I were superwoman due to the fact of how many shifts I work and still manage to stay on top of things 24/7. To be honest I would rather be at University right now but, I have to make the money first. That's why I work so much instead of being at University and training to be a doctor. I am waiting a year to make a few thousand dollars, then I can take off with my career. For now Johnson's Day Care works just as fine, I love working here and the kids bring a smile to my face.
I finished setting up and the children should start arriving any minute now. Just as I took a small red chair to relax, a knock at the door interrupted me. "Hi Violet" Jake's mom greeted and Jake ran straight to the building blocks. I stood up and grabbed the sign in sheet for her and gave it to her. She signed and walked out waving goodbye to me and kissing her son. "So Jake, excited for school?" I asked while sitting down. "No, school is stupid" he said while building his structure. "Jake, we don't use that language here" I said sternly. "Sowey Violet" he replied, no care in his voice. "Don't do it again ok buddy?" He nodded his head as if to imply that he understood my command.
Soon enough all the kids were here, but Vickie was unfortunately not. "Everyone quiet down" I loudly spoke to the 10 kids on the carpet. They all stopped what they were doing and payed attention. "Good morning friends" "Good morning Violet" they all spoke in sync. "So sister Agnes will be arriving with your food any minute but we can't all act wild during that time. So were gonna play a quiet, civilized game. Any suggestions?" Julia raised her hand. "Yes Julia" the little blonde girl looked up at me "what is civilized?" She looked at me puzzled. I chuckled a little bit. "Someone who is 'Civilized' is someone mannerly , and polite." She scratched her head and smiled shyly "thanks" I smiled in response. "So any games?" I asked the group of toddlers. "Yea! I have one!!!" Sara exclaimed shaking her hand in the air to the point where I thought it was going to fall off. "Yes Sara" she put her tired hand on her lap once I noticed her. " Who am i" she suggested, almost everyday they play that. Don't they get sick of it? I know I do. "Does everyone agree on that?" of course, everyone shook their head. Although I wish they didn't. "Ok then, Sara you can go first since you said who am i" she clapped her hands in pleasure and started hopping around. Soon everyone had their hand raised. "James" she pointed to one of her class mates. "A bunny!!!!!" He practically shouted. "yep" she simply replied back.
After several turns of 'who am I' they ate some cereal and milk and it was time to leave. "Ok guys, time to go to school. Grab your bag, lunch boxes, any of your belongings from the cubbies and line up." While they were getting ready I went into the small closet and got my sweater. It wasn't that cold here but since it was fall I put a light sweater on top. "Great job guys. You got ready quickly today, later I'll give you all a sticker" they all smiled and jumped up and down. I wish a sticker could solve all of my problems and make me happy... Unfortunately that's not the case. "There's a scary man at the door" Luna said and pointed at the door frame. I turned around and saw a tall guy with curly hair that flowed down the side of his face but was a little pushed up, broad shoulders, a distinctive and sharp jaw line, and tattoos.... So many tattoos. He was a dark figure with pale skin. "C-can I help you?" I chocked a little bit "where's the bathroom?" He replied, his voice slow and hoarse, but his tone.. seductive and alluring. His whole presence was seductive and alluring. "umm just down the hall, third door on your right" he smiled a cheeky and evil smile. "thanks" He excited slowly and left me with goose bumps. "I don't like that guy" Luna said again. Holding tightly to Victoria. " Now don't say that" I replied trying to set a good example although we were on the same page. "I'm sowey" Luna said still holding tightly to Victoria as if he was gonna hurt them.
I dropped all of the kids off and it was time for me to take care of the babies. I walked into the building again being greeted by Shannon. "How do you do it?" she asked me referring to me running around like a chicken without a head. " People have it worse" I sighed back, out of breath. she smiled at me "your a good sport" I smiled back. "Thank you.. I better get going." I replied she nodded her head and once again smiled. She smiled a lot but that was all part of her friendly persona. Thankfully the babies room was just down the hall so I didn't have to walk up a flight of stairs "Hello Hun" Ava whispered "Hello" I whispered back "their sleeping so we can just sit down and relax for a bit.. I have to get some paperwork from Mr.Johnson's office for their parents. Do you want to go or me?" I kind of felt bad for her. I mean she is an old woman, not senior but middle aged. And she works in this room all the time from 7AM to 6PM, weekends included. "It's alright I will go don't stress" I replied sweetly making sure to sound as respectful as possible. Her being possibly 47 I'm pretty sure she doesn't look forward to walking 2 flights of stairs. No one would "Thanks dear, your a great help around here" we both chuckled silently.
"Ugh" I silently moaned while practically forcing my feet to go up the stairs. I'm not lazy at all, I'm just tired and sleep deprivation and stairs don't go well together. I came across a room with what looked like bamboo wood and a silver plate that stated "Mr.Johnson" on it. I knocked slightly but felt a little bit scared. Mr.Johnson is the head of this whole building. His father Anthony Johnson created it and now he runs it. I heard footsteps getting closer to the door. "WHAT" The guy with the tattoos spread all over his body greeted me. As soon as he saw me the cheeky evil smile that he had on his face when I saw him earlier on today had came back. Oh God. "Hey" he said as he stared at me, making me feel as if he were staring into my soul. "Hello, I'm looking for Mr.Johnson" I was being taken over with goose bumps again. "Not here" he simply answered as if he had no care in the world. "well I need to pick up some papers" I replied, annoyance clear in my voice. "Name?" I huffed, he didn't have to get my damn name. "That isn't necessary" I spoke a little too soft. "Ok well bye" he said about to shut the door. "Violet" I huffed once again. When God can I leave? "Harry" he replied. Just staring at me, no hand out to shake just staring at me. He has no manners and just being around him infuriates me to no end. "May I have my paperwork now please?" he moved out of my way and sat at a big desk with bamboo wood to match the door. "in that cabinet" he said pointing to the steel cabinet beside a plasma TV.
I opened it up and looked through the files.. Ava didn't tell me what the files would be under. "I don't know what there called" I told him with my hand on my hip. He had his feet up on the desk and his hands behind his head. "And how am I gonna help you? Snap my fingers and make them appear?" I clenched my tiny fists, trying not to yell at him, but I'm scared of him. "Sorry" I replied leaving quickly "Violet" he said just as I was about to leave. "umm yes?" I muttered. "Those pants make your ass look good" he said biting his lip and staring at my bum. I gulped and left quicker than possible. I was just verbally abused by some goth kid. Why was he in Mr.Johnson's office? Was he Mr.Johnson? No he couldn't be. Someone professional enough to own his own child care centre wouldn't speak that way, and probably wouldn't look like the recipe for darkness. I sprinted down the stairs down to the baby centre. "What's wrong Violet?" Ava asked me, concern plastered on her face. "I'm sorry Ava, I couldn't find the file name. And I'm just so-" Ava interrupted me. "It's ok Violet.. You look and sound exhausted. Go home today. I'll tell Shannon to tell Mr.Johnson you did the whole shift today so you won't miss out on pay." I sighed "But I have a shift at 3:30" she pursed her lips. "Don't worry, Shannon and I will take care of it. Vickie never misses the afternoon" Relief fled through my body. "Thank You so much Ava." She smiled brightly "No worries" I said my goodbyes and walked back up to the JK room to get my belongings. Today was the weirdest day of my life...
