They came from the sky. Thousands, no, millions of them, falling to the earth like large metal rain drops. The world was in panic; the people of the 600s, who had never even heard of technology, saw them as the bringers of death, of the final reckoning. It was Dr. Von Burg who 'tamed' them, as the history books say. These large, metal aliens, who meant no harm to our Earth. Turns out they needed our help as much as we needed theirs. Their knowledge of technology helped advance our world in ways we would have never dreamed possible. Now vaccines were created, irrigation, and our lives were greatly extended. By the 800s, people lived to 80 years old. But the friendly giants could not stand our atmosphere, and so their bodies began to rust. Though it took millennia, the robots, as they were deemed, eventually were unable to move. We do not know if they were gone, or if their minds were still active. The robots were placed in a single junk yard, never to be see again.
Without their guidance, mankind quickly reverted back to its natural self, cruel and unkind. Our friendly aliens were no long here to protect us from ourselves.
Who knew that our destruction would come not from the sky, but our own hands.
