Chapter 1

Every birthday, Everyone wishes the same thing, to be a higher rank. It's called a wish for a reason. Wishes don't come true. No matter how much you wish. My mother made sure I knew this at a young age.

"Sydney!" My best friend Valentina shakes me awake.

"Wait what time is it." I shoot up.

"Time for fun." She says ripping the covers off me.

"Val, I have responsibilities" I groan.

"Syd, you are 17 years old, you are allowed to have fun."

"I do have fun." I smile at her.

"More like don't."

"Val, each family has a job. If you haven't noticed i'm the only Emturn in the house."

"I'm positive if you forgot to wash the dishes for one day, the Alpha will not kill you."

"Yeah he'll kick me out, which is death."

"Sydney, you need to loosen up. You're parents wouldn't want this."

"We don't need to have this talk everyday." I whine.

"Yes we do. I will not give up until you agree to go out for once."

"I'll see how fast I get my chores done."

"Thats a start!"

"In the meantime, Valentina it's time for you to help you're parents."

"Not this talk!"

"I'll continue to have this talk until you agree." I mock.

"Go get dressed loser." Valentina smiles and hits my butt,

She leaves me with my thoughts and they weren't good ones today. I think about my parents everyday. Some days were good memories we had, but others I replay the events that happened the day they died.

Nobody knows what actually happened to them. Except me. I was planning to keep it that way.

I quickly look at the clock and see I have 5 minutes to check into the system and I race downstairs.

"What's got you're panties in a twist." Aria laughs.

"Don't want to be late." I breath out.
With one minute left on the clock, I quickly sign in and take a deep breath of relief.

"Did you hear?" Aria starts.

"Hear what?"

"Oh Syd, always not up to date."

"Oh shut up. That's why I got you."

"The Alpha called a whole pack meeting."

"Why haven't i heard this?"

"Why aren't you screaming."

"Aria sorry to break it to you, the Alpha mate is going to be some rich snobby bitch that thinks she's better then you, because she a high rank."

"Syd are you telling me that I'm not a rich snobby bitch?"

"Never said you weren't the last part." I wink at her.

"Sydney Morgan Emturn!"

"Love ya girly. But see you after work."
"Val said you might go out."

"Don't hold your breath on this one." Mallory greets us.

"Mal, how nice of you to join us." I glare at her.

"That Valentina, never can keep her mouth shut." Mallory jokes.

"But if I do go out, I'll make sure to invite you lovely, lovely ladies."

"See you at the meeting at 5!"

"TODAY!?"

"I forgot to mention that." Aria says.

"Bye guys, I really got to get going." I say racing to the kitchen.

"Good morning Miss Parish." I greet the cook.

"Nice of you to join me Sydney." She scowls at me.

"I woke up late I'm terribly sorry."

"I bet you were sleep talking out there." She says with her voice laced with sarcasm.

What did I ever do to that lady.

At 4, I race to my room to get ready for the speech.

I put on a black maxi dress and black heels. I put on a gold necklace and put my brown hair in a neat bun. Then I touched it with a little mascara and gold eyeshadow.

I look at the time. 4:57. Shit!

I took off my heels and ran downstairs. I put my heels back on and ran to the meeting house. 5:10.

All these thoughts were running through my head. How should i enter?

I decided to enter as quietly as possible and not make myself known. I took off my heels once again because there was a shitload of stairs and walked in. Nobody looked at me. Until I fell down 2 stairs and screamed. Everyone looked at me. But I could only look at one. The soon to be Alpha on the stage. My mate.
