My mind was calm as I started to wake up in my bed, wait not my bed?  Where am I?  I didn’t want to open my eyes, and then I remembered I was in Kyle’s car.

“Where are we?”  I couldn’t see anything at first, and then I realized my eyes were still closed.  At least we were still in his car.  We were still driving, but it was dark, I couldn’t see outside that car, but he didn’t even have his headlights on!  “How long have we been driving?  How long was I asleep?”  My voice was rusted.

“Don’t worry, we’re in a tunnel, you were only sleeping for like five minutes.”  I calmed down knowing it wasn’t actually dark out.  Was I really worried about it getting dark out?  “It was really cute.  My house is just on the other side of a bridge, we’ll pass under it as soon as we’re out of this tunnel.”

“How long are we going to be in the car for…?”  I didn’t want to sound rude.  My stomach was tightening; I still haven’t eaten anything yet today.

         “Not much longer Maria.”

My stomach rumbled, “good, because…. I haven’t even had breakfast yet.”

“Well… I called in a substitute,” he informed me as we drove out of the tunnel.  “So, I can make you something to eat when we get there.”

         “You cook,” I asked stupidly.

This time when Kyle laughed it was warm and guanine, “yes, I cook every now and then.”

“Mmmm…. I love a man who can cook,” woah, did I really just say that?  “Well….. As long as he can cook it RIGHT!”  I smiled at my own confidence, well the confidence in my voice anyway.

“Hhmmm…. Toast sounds good right?”  He laughed as his question was dripping with sarcasm.

“Toast is good.”  We pulled into a driveway in front of a big beautiful log cabin, “you live here?”

         “Yeah, I do”

         “It’s so beautiful,” I gawked.

“So are you,” he said with a smirk.  “Let’s just hope my dad agrees.”

“Awe! You are so cute!”  I said as I smiled like crazy looking at him.  Wait; did I just openly say that?  Hold on, what did he mean he ‘hoped’ his dad agreed?  “What do you mean?  Oh, wait never mind.  We’re supposed to be in school, and I’m not even supposed to be with you.”  Well this all just got real weird.

Kyle shut off the car and came around to open my door for me; a smile was plastered on my face.  It was all because of Kyle being cute.  I looked past Kyle and into the doorway to see a large, toned man in a black cargo pants and a band tee walking out.  “What the hell took so long,” the man yelled?

“Well, father,” the way he said ‘father’ I got the feeling he was trying to mock the word.  “I ran into a bit of trouble.”  He pulled me into his arms.  He was so warm and strong; I couldn’t help but snuggle closer and try to take in his body heat.

“What were you thinking!? You brought a GIRL to our home!!”  Maybe Kyle’s parents had issues… What was so bad about having a girl over?  Why else would this man have such an obvious problem with females?

“Father, this is Maria, she and I were removed from class.  The teacher did not appreciate that I was attempting to socialize and introduce myself to the class,” Kyle was calm.  How was he talking so calm?!  Just before his father could speak again Kyle cut him off.  “Don’t get mad… she’s not in any danger,” he dragged out danger like it had a second meaning.  “So, you don’t have to freak out on me okay?”
