Flashback.
August 13th, 1978.
It was about to be my eleventh year here at Venice High School with my best friend, Camila. I had other guys and girls to spend my time with but her and I were stuck like glue since grade 7.
Although popularity between people is such a huge ideal, I personally can NOT stand it. Most people would love to have many friends and we all know they would love for the jocks to drool over them. Think about it, how many of those people are going to be your friend after High School? It really is how life goes and I have learned to accept that.
"Juliet, are you going to the school dance?" I heard the question slip out of my best friends mouth while we were getting our books from our lockers. I closed the small metal door and looked at the smaller brunette, feeling a soft smile spread across my lips. "Only if you go." I winked and lightly nudged the front of her shoulder.
I heard the contagious giggle flow out of Camila's mouth as we began to walk down the crowded hallway full of different groups that made most of the girls knees weak. I did not pay most attention to the young guys with leather jackets, their hair slicked back along with their nice cars because that wasn't really my thing.
"Of course I'll go if you go, you can be my hot date." Camila winked back at me as we finally reached the end of the hall, opening the big doors to go outside. I turned to face her for a second and laughed, "Looks like we're all set then." I smiled and leaned down to give her a tight hug, something that we had always done whenever we went home.
Before I let go of her I felt a pair of larger hands on my waist to turn me around only to face the taller boy with jet black hair, his emerald green eyes were almost as captivating as the brown orbs that I found myself falling deeper in love with every time I caught them looking into mine.
When I felt myself looking into the pair of green eyes my eyes stayed quiet, they did not explode with love and excitement the same way they did when they found themselves getting lost in the endless color of the brown eyes.
"Colton, what are you doing?" I whispered, feeling my bottom lip getting captured beneath my teeth. I didn't know what to say to my ex boyfriend who was right in front of me.
"Well I was just wondering if you wanted to go with me to the school dance, you know just you and me." The handsome jock responded.
My mind began to scatter all over the place as I tripped over all of the possible answers inside of my mind before it stopped on one. "I'm going with Camila, you know she is my best friend." I responded as I looked up at the dark haired boy.
"Come on, it's just one night besides-" "Actually, go ahead I have to work anyway." Camila interrupted as the girl stood there awkwardly. "Wa-" I tried to speak but before I could get the sentence out, Colton spoke.
"See, she's fine with it." He whispered and got so close to my face I felt his soft breath on my lips as he finished his sentence. "We can go back to my house after." He finished and turned around to walk away like nothing happened.
I quickly turned to face Camila but she had left before I got to say what I was going to say. I know that my best friend was not very fond of Colton not only because he broke my heart but because the only time he comes around is to try to get in between my thighs.
"Shit." I whispered to myself and walked over to my car trying to find the right things to say to her. I promised her I wouldn't let him back in and I swear I didn't but he randomly walked up to me like nothing happened in the past, what else would she think?
When I got home I went straight to my room and plopped on my bed as I let out a loud "UGH!" I felt a lot more frustrated than I thought I would've been before I got home.
