I wake to the sudden sound of screaming from downstairs, and fall off of my four poster bed. Shaking my head to clear it, I get to my feet and rush down to the common room, where I find Lani jumping up and down and clutching an envelope, apparently screaming for joy.
"I swear, if you don't shut up right now, I will throw myself into this fire!" McKenna yells, covering her ears with her hands and standing dangerously close to the fireplace.
"Woah, calm down Kenna!" I say, walking over to her. "Back away from the fireplace."
I direct McKenna onto a couch, and manage to stop Lani from screaming.
"What is going on here?" I ask weakly, plopping onto the couch next to McKenna. "I leave you two alone for ten minutes and you-"
"I'm Head Girl!" Lani squeals, interrupting me. "I've just gotten the letter!"
"That's great, Lani." I smile. "I think we all knew you would be."
"But did you have to scream?" McKenna inquires.
Lani smiles, apparently ignoring McKenna. "I'll have to leave on the first so that I can be on the train to brief the new 5th year prefects with the Head Boy, of course I don't know who that is yet..."
Lani continues to babble about her new Head Girl duties, until Kenna and I get bored and suggest that we get something for lunch.

The next week passes slowly, with more professors and staff members arriving every day, and more talk about Head duties, Peak, my father, and relationships. September 1st finally arrives, and Lani leaves early in the morning so that she can be on the train back to Hogwarts by 11:00am, while McKenna and I wait around all day for our fellow students to arrive.
"Do you want to get something from the kitchens?" McKenna asks in a bored tone, staring at the dorm room ceiling.
"Kenna, they're going to be here soon, which means we'll have the feast." I remind her.
"Yes, but I'm bored." She sighs. "I can't wait to see everyone, it's been weird to be here by ourselves."
"Yes, it has." I agree. "I think the time would have passed more quickly if the twins had been here."
"Definitely." McKenna nods, still staring at the ceiling. Suddenly, a familiar whistle sounds, and McKenna sits up, looking excited for the first time all day.
"We should probably change into our robes, then by the time the carriages reach the castle we can be ready for the feast." McKenna nods, and we both retrieve our Gryffindor robes from our trunks, and change, before we head downstairs to the Great Hall, where the students are already pouring in. We look around for a few minutes, after wandering over to the Gryffindor table, and we eventually spot Fred and George.
"Here comes trouble." George says as we get closer.
"If anyone's trouble it's you two." I smile.
"Nice to see you again too." Fred smirks and pulls me in for a quick kiss. "It must have been boring here without me." He says when he pulls away.
"Good to know you haven't changed." I laugh as George and McKenna 'catch up' beside us. "Do you know where Lani is?"
"No, I think she's off doing something with the 6th year prefects, I'm not sure." He shrugs in a bored manner. "Speaking of, Ron and Hermione are prefects now."
McKenna suddenly pulls away from George.
"Ron is a prefect?" She asks incredulously.
"Yeah, at least that's what the badge says."
