I'm still alive. Don't worry. I'm just a bit busy at the moment. I'm having all my exams at the moment and that'll continue till mid march... then I'll have a break of about five weeks before the next exam-season starts.

So this is "Effi Priest". She is the protagonist of a novel (also named "Effi Priest") written by Theodor Fontane. The books basically about a seventeen year old, childish girl, in the mid 18 hundreds, who gets married to the (you could say:) ex-boyfriend of her mother "Geert von Innstetten". He's 22 years older than her.
All she wants and expects from her marriage is mony, fame and wealth, because of the society in her time. But also love and some kind of friendship that her husband (who's engaged in politics, giving her a higher position in society than her parents) can't give her.

Two years into marriage she gets lured into an affair with "Major Crampas", who's about 30/35 years older than her and an real "eye-catcher".
You don't really get to know about her affair but she has one, I promise.
Half a year after she started her relationship with Crampas, Innstetten, Effi and their daughter Anni move away to Berlin. She tells Crampas goodbye via a letter and tells him she won't be coming back and that she's happy, that the affair has ended (she never really wanted the affair, but she was too afraid to back out)

Seven years after moving to Berlin, Innstetten discovers the letters that she and Crampas had written and wants "Satisfaktion" from Crampas. This basically means that he convinced Crampas of a duell, because he was the one his wife with on him. He kills Crampas and divorces Effi.
Effi moves back in with her parents and dies at the young age of 28/29 from a broken heart.

So if anyone has to read Effi briest in lessons, don't be afraid. It's not that bad. Only the language is a bit boring and it takes a long time to read.
