Quick recap:
Agony exploded through my left side, and I felt a sickening shatter. I hit the ground, and felt a massive weight on my right arm.
Crack.
The weight was lifted off me for a millisecond, then it hit my left leg as well as my right arm.
Crunch.
I gasped for breath, trying to make sense of what had just happened. I could feel scratches and scrapes all over my face and arms. I could hear shouting. Was that Dan? Then someone's face appeared above me.
“Evelyn?” Phil asked, his voice cracking.
I opened my mouth, but no sound came out.
“Evelyn, you have to stay awake,” he continued, “Dan's calling for an ambulance.”
I struggled to reply, but it was getting harder and harder to breathe. Blackness edged my vision. My eyelids felt heavy.
Is this it? I thought. Is this how I'm going to die?
(Recap end)
The next thing I knew, I was in a hospital. I could see a doctor who was looking at x-rays. I could tell she was talking to someone, but I couldn't make out the words. Before I could do anything, I blacked out again.
(a few hours later)
Phil's P.O.V.
Dan and I sat outside the room that Evelyn was in. We were worried to say the least. So you can imagine how it went when the doctor emerged from the room.
“Is she alright?” Dan and I asked at the same time.
She shook her head. “I'm afraid Miss Williams isn't in good shape. She's got three broken ribs, her right humerus (upper arm bone) is fractured, her left tibia and fibula (lower leg bones) are broken, and she has a concussion.”
She paused to let it sink in before continuing. “There's a good chance she won't make it.”
I thought my heart would stop.
“She's still asleep right now; you should come back in the morning.”
“No!” we both said at the same time. She stepped aside, and let us in.
Evelyn's P.O.V.
You'd think this was the cheesiest thing ever...but it was true.
Everything was dark. There was no 'light at the end of the tunnel' stuff, no 'I saw God'; nothing like that. It was just dark. I could vaguely hear things going on around my physical body; I could still feel the pain of my broken limbs, although it was just a dull ache.
“Where am I?” I asked.
“Well,” said a voice, “you're in a sort of limbo.”
I shrieked and looked around for the voice's owner. “Who are you?” I called.
“Would you believe me if I told you?”
“I just got hit by a car, I'm hovering between life and death if what you say is true, and there is a strange person talking to me in the dark. I think I'll believe it.”
“Well then,” it said, “I'll show you.”
Everything was engulfed in a bright light for a second, and then I was standing in a white room. In this room was a small table and two chairs. There was a figure in one of these chairs.
“I'm you,” the person said.
A/N: Hello! I'm sorry that I didn't update yesterday like I said I was going to! :( But hey, I still gave you the extra chapter! That's a plus, right? right?
Well, hope you like the sequel! It's going to be fairly short, only like four or five chapters maybe.
