A Lost Spirit

Chapter 2: The Meeting

As Leo and I sat at the back, reading books and writing on a piece of paper. A girl came up to us and greeted us, we sat straight then listened to what she has to say.

"Good morning Jake and Leo, my name is Tayaka. I'm sure you already know me. You look friendly so I just wanted to say hi."

With our delinquent looks, we acted like delinquents when people are around to scare them. Works all the time, its super effective but they dont hate us for it.

"What did you say!? Ya think we're friendly? Well start looking somewhere else cause you wont find anyone friendly around here. So go somewhere else."

She got scared and since I look super scary when i'm serious. Everyone doesn't come near me, which is a good thing for me. But then another girl came up then introduced herself. (I'm getting tired of these girls..)

"Hi my name is Yakamo, I was looking around for people to socialize with since i'm new here and was hopi-"

Leo quickly interrupted her then shouted at her. Seems he's pretty serious about it.

"If you want to have friends, you won't get any here! So go move on to the next people then LEAVE US ALONE!"

I feel the same, we already said not to get too close, that includes friendship.
Now ANOTHER one came and just sat in front of me, stared at me for no reason. So I decided to talk to her and scare her away.

"What do you want? If you're looking for friends then you won't find any here. Wanna get beaten up?"

She didn't react, so Leo spoke up but with a serious voice, not a loud one.

"Hey, answer him, leave or wanna go to the nurse's office in the first day of school."

He clenched his fist showing a sign of aggression but she still didn't flinch. She just stared at me then after a few seconds, she spoke.

"You're not normal, you're not like the others and you are not bad guys. I can tell just by being here.''

She sat there with a smile on her face so Leo stood up then tried to punch her but, that would be going too far. I swatted his hand downwards, Leo knows that I don't like what he's doing so he sat down then kept quiet. I looked at her then asked her for her name. She didn't respond for a bit but then answered.

"My name is Layana Fawn, I introduced myself earlier. Did you not listen?"

Being foreigners and all, I thought we were the only ones who had weird names. Guess I was wrong, or at least we three have the weirdest names in our university. I spoke, she listened. Leo is still throwing a tantrum.

"You can sit in front of my seat but don't face me. Also as you were listening to introductions earlier. Don-"

She interrupted me with a sudden response and a smile on her face.

"Don't get too close. Same with you, do not touch me. I am a very sensitive person"

Her smile was contagious that I had to go remove my gaze off of her, when I glanced back she was still staring at me, I found that quite irritating. So I told her to look up front and not look at me, everyone was having fun and talking with their new friends. Us three were different, we were quiet on our seats and reading books, writing on a piece of paper and writing on our palms, but the bell broke the silent atmosphere.

"Wanna go down and eat Jake? Oh yeah you too Layaka. Let's all eat together outside the campus. It'll be great!"

I didn't feel like eating so I gave my food to Leo and told him to give it to Layaka so she didn't have to go and buy the super-expensive-but-luxurious food at the canteen. They went down and I kept on reading my book, but a few minutes later I fell asleep with the book on my hand. When I woke up, Leo and Layaka was in front of me and professor was teaching, they didn't wake me up so I complained.

"What time is it? Why didn't you wake me up?"

They didn't answer so I repeated with a louder but calm voice since i'm not trying to attract any attention.

"Hey, Answer me. Are you even listening? You're pissing me off, HEY!"

Everyone turned, only Layaka and Leo has pure white eyes. It surprised me and when I woke up, Leo and Layaka was in front of me and was giggling. I was curious to why everyone was looking at me and started chuckling. I looked at them then finally spoke.

"What? What are you looking at? Did you prank me again?"

He moved his hand to his pocket then brought out a clear mirror. When I looked, I had a moustache and lipstick. I felt so embarassed I started chasing Leo. We ran around toppling all the chairs in sight. I was runnig towards Leo, he suddenly stopped then I stopped also but bumped him while stopping. He hit the table then it flew towards Layaka. Instinctively, I ran to her but I knew I wouldn't make it. So I grabbed the table and pulled it towards me, I fell down, pulling the table with me. Hitting me when it dropped on me. I blacked out and I didn't know what really happened after that. When I woke up I was in the nurse's office, Leo was the only one there. I kind of felt like I wanted to see Layaka there for some reason but I didn't mention that to Leo.

"What happened? What time is it? Damn my head hurts."

Leo didn't answer and was looking down. I tried to move but I couldn't, felt like a whole building is on top of me. Trying to move makes me feel this fiery feeling all over my body, it scared me. I couldn't feel my legs, I could only move my head. But moving it makes me feel like I have a super painful migraine. I was afraid, I asked Leo.

"What happened? Why can't I move? Leo speak to me! What happened!? What did they do to me!?"

All that shouting and all Leo did was stare at me with lifeless eyes. Seeing those eyes, I knew what they did. So I just closed my eyes then whispered a few words. I could only mumble them, I opened my eyes after a few seconds. He came closer so he could hear, then I mumbled the words.

"Can you stay? Call Layaka if its okay with you. I want someone with me until the time I can move."

Leo nodded and went outside, I closed my eyes then I drifted off to sleep. I dreamt of the the mountains. I was happy, I was back at home and everyone was welcoming me. Its been so long that I nearly forgot the ways of the forest. Everyone was happy, tears fell down my face. It wasn't tears of pain, It was tears of joy. When I was about to become part of the forest again, I woke up. Leo was there talking to Layaka. I was crying, not just in the dream but also in reality. I talked, they couldn't hear me, I lost my voice. I went back to sleep but felt like I was in a dreamless slumber, it felt like seconds. I woke up and both of them were gone, I could move now.
"Leo? Layaka? Where are you guys?"

I called out but no one answered and I walked around to see if they're anywhere around. I heard footsteps outside so I went out to see who it is. I looked out the room, Leo and Layaka were walking down the hall. I called them out and they went to me. They were worried that i'm still too weak to do anything and so they helped me walk to the classroom. When we got there, no one was inside. Leo took my bag while Layaka supported me. I asked where everyone was but they didn't answer. I've been feeling weird, Leo and Layaka are acting strange. I don't know what to do. I got a bit irritated so I didn't speak a single word. I got home, as usual, I went to my bed and lied down while staring at the ceiling. Thinking of what just happened, I regret pulling the table, at the same time I feel happy for what I did. "What DID happen when I was resting?" That thought kept bothering me.

What happened?
