Chapter 1

"Hayley! Hayley wait up!" someone called. It was Lucas. He had been following Hayley since first period! It was starting to get creepy! Hayley spun around on her heels, "What?" she demanded. He stared at her for a moment, she had never snapped like that. He cleared his throat, as if unsure of what to say. Instead of speaking he shook his head and looked down.

"What?" Hayley asked softer than before.

" I,uh, wanted to know if you, maybe, wanted to go out sometime?" he said quickly.

"Really?" she asked sarcastically, clearly not interested. "No way!" Hayley took him by surprise.

"Seriously?" he looked up nervously.

"Seriously." she said simply. In response, Lucas turned around and ran away silently to his friends. Hayley snickered quietly as she walked to class.

Hayley didn't pay any attention to the teacher in her next class. all she could think about was the guy on the roof. She had never seen him before, at least she didn't think so. he was about 5'11 with short, yet shaggy, blonde hair and was lean yet muscular. she hadn't seen his face because she had run back down into the school after she saw him.

After class, the bell snapped her out of her thoughts of the guy on the roof. Hayley quickly collected her books and practically sprinted to her locker, but she didn't know why. Once she had everything she needed, she ran to the roof. she stopped half way up, why am I doing this? she thought. She almost thought she wanted to see the guy on the roof again. She pushed the thought out of her head and decided to go up anyway.

When she got to the top, she was relieved to find herself alone. she sat on the edge of a flower bed and pulled out her phone. she quickly took her platinum blonde hair into a braid over her right shoulder. Hayley took a few pictures of the flowers and a few selfies for good measure. The last picture was the best so she deleted the rest. About half way through, there was something in the background. A person!

It looked like the person that had been up here the day before. She turned around but they were now gone. She sighed and walked to her class.

In her class, Hayley heard her stomach growl. Damn it! I shouldn't have skipped lunch to go to the roof! She thought. Oh well, she would have to eat when she got home, only three more classes and she could go.

Her next class was with Lucas and Allie. Hayley hoped that things didn't get awkward now that she knew Lucas still liked her and Allie had a crush on him. She didn't think that Allie would hold it against her. Allie was more important than Lucas, at least in Hayley's mind she was.

Luckily, Allie and Lucas didn't talk-not that they ever talked- and only Allie talked to Hayley. When she had,it was only a question about the book they were reading-And Then There Were None. Hayley and Lucas had shared a few looks during the class, but no one else had noticed. She had survived her last class and Allie hasn't found out about her conversation with Lucas, not yet at least.

Once Hayley and Allie were finally home, they did their homework together in Hayley's room. Hayley lay on her bed on her stomach noting down notes about the chapter so she could write her summary. Allie sat at Hayley's desk working on her algebra homework. How do I bring this up? Hayley thought as she looked at her sister, puzzled.

"What?" Allie questioned the puzzled look Hayley had.

"Well,I ,uh , kinda sorta talked to Lucas and he said he liked me..." Hayley paused before continuing, "He asked me out! I can't believe that lying little bastard!" in return, Allie laughed. not a sarcastic laugh, but a true laugh.

"I haven't had a crush on him since he cheated on you!" Allie exclaimed. Hayley wasn't sure if Allie was telling the truth or just trying to make her feel better. Hayley couldn't help but hear the word 'had'.

"So when did you stop liking Lucas?" Hayley asked knowing her sister was lying.

"What do you mean" and then under her breath "Since you started to like him."

After that awkward conversation, Allie left and Hayley could easily figure out why. That was the thing between Allie and Hayley, they couldn't lie to each other. Hayley trusted Allie and she knew that Allie trusted her too, but without Amber, it wasn't the same. Hayley had been keeping secrets since Amber's death and no one, not even her sister, knew what they were. She certainly didn't plan on sharing them soon either. Hayley Brooke's was about to have the biggest shock of her life, it's name is...
