Prologue
Before the Dinosaur Wars, human beings ruled the
earth. Great cities with steam-powered locomotives and
factories dominated countries. Civilization and science,
the greatest of human achievements, had conquered the
natural world. Humans looked forward to the time they
would conquer the sky and outer space. And even death
itself.
That was not to be.
A calamity happened. A war unlike any other
overwhelmed humankind. Civilization crumbled and people
slunk back to the dwellings of their distant forebears.
Back into caves and atop giant trees. They surrendered the
plains, the jungles and savannahs. Some became nomads.
Others made camps in defensible valleys - prisoners in
their own fortresses.
The world of mammals gave way to reptiles. The
hunters became the hunted. The human era was over.
