"If you're scared of coming out
and you fear what lies ahead;
overheard and understood
the scary words your parents said;
if you've heard us talk of suffering,
if you feel the monsters loom;
if you think that life won't suit you,
just knock on the wall of your womb.
You see, I know just how you feel -
my mind has rarely known much rest,
and I can't promise you'll be happy
but I can promise you my best.
Sometimes I wish I was there with you
but as you know, there's not much room,
so in the meantime, if you need me,
just knock on the wall of your womb.
But there are questions I can't answer,
there is so much I don't know,
but we can learn it all together
so just lie back and grow.
And soon we'll share that heart above you
that beats boom, ba-boom, ba-boom,
and in the meantime, if you need me
just knock on the wall of your womb."
Holly sang softly to her unborn child ,as it quickly calmed down from its restless state.
It was a lullaby she came across while reading on some baby info on the internet. A sweet song that had a calming impact on her and the miracle growing inside her.
The most amusing fact was, miracle only liked to hear the lullaby, which she sang- in her voice, not the original audio.
A small smile lit up her face.
Miracle....
It came naturally to her calling the beautiful living thing growing inside her. It truly was a miracle. She still hadn't thought of any names. She and Ethan in the beginning had decided that they would pick them out together. She missed that sweet, funky Ethan.
For the past four months, Holly had called Ethan everyday. He had refused to answer, giving excuses of work. All of her calls were answered by his new Secretary.
She had also mailed him each and every sonogram that took place. Yet there was no reply from his side. She doubted he even opened her mails anymore.
Although there was no response from his side, she thought it was her responsibility to keep him updated about their child. After all the child was created by both of their 'efforts'. It definitely takes two to tango.
And today being an important appointment, she wanted him to be there with. She wanted to find out the baby's gender along with him. But turns out he had engrossed himself in to work and business so much that he had been distant to Maximus as well. What drew him to his extreme stress level was still a mystery to her.
And today again Ethan Mars was the that one difficult exam that she had failed.
Currently laying down on the bed at the sonogram centre, Holly felt her heartbeat speed up. The doctor was just about to tell her the baby's gender. And co-incidentally she didn't have any moral support today. Her mother had to go out along with her father.
Her eyes slowly diverted towards the screen when the doctor left out a sigh of relief. "There it is Mrs.Mars. Your cute little baby girl."
Holly bit the inside of her cheeks to stop the tears from spilling out. She was going to have a baby girl. A beautiful baby girl.
She had soon left the clinic along with the sonogram recorded. As fast she could have, she had mailed it to Ethan. If he still cared even a little bit about her, he would be there besides her holding her hand, as soon as he sees the recording. She was going to wait in her car for some time. Waiting for Ethan.
She opened the car door and got inside. A goofy smile playing on her face. Happy... She felt so God damn happy.
5 minutes passed.....
15 minutes passed.....
30 minutes passed.....
1 hour passed....
2 hours passed......
Still No response !
Her hands were itching to call him. But she was afraid that she would be again answered by his Secretary. She didn't want such an important news to be delivered to him by some other women. She wanted to be the one to tell him.
Just one last time, Holly...
She dialed his cell phone number and waited for him to answer, but after two rings it went to voice mail. Letting out an exasperated sigh, she called his office. Praying all the way for him to pick it up. But as always, Gods and Fates have some sort of grudge against her.
"Hello, how can I help you ?", her high pitched voice peirced Holly's ear drums.
"Umm... Can I speak to Mr.Mars please. It is sort of urgent." Please just let him talk to me at least once...
"Who am I speaking to Ma'am ?", she inquired politely. "Tell him its his wife and she wants to speak to him urgently", Holly was well aware that she sounded very desperate. She didn't have the time to think all that now. The Secretary told her to wait for a few minutes.
Holly heard distant murmurs for of the Secretary and the second voice which she was sure was Ethan. Within five minutes she was back on line. "Sorry Ma'am, but he is currently very busy. He will contact you as soon as he is finished. Have a nice day." With that the phone call was ended, and so were her efforts to get him back.
Holly wiped off the raging tears that were spilt out of her eyes. She started the car and sped off towards the road.
Her emotions were haywire. She felt like she was on a roller-coaster ride of life. For a moment she was happy and then she was sad again. She didn't want this. She just wanted a simple life. Not a one with loops and ups and downs.
Suddenly everything happened in slow motion. Last thing she remembered before passing out was the sound of cars screeching and her own loud voice.
