[ Chapter - Never ]

I stay put on the ground as I close my eyes, letting the brutal sounds sink in.

"Lauren," I reopen my eye to the voice of my brother. "Get up come on we're gonna get caught." He says dragging me off the ground and onto my feet. Reaching our small house in the base, we go separate ways to our bedroom windows that we share with our other siblings. I slowly and quietly climb through the window. Half way in there came a voice I knew from the bottom of my heart,

"You know," I scramble off of the window ledge and land flat onto the hard wood floor of the bedroom I share with my younger sister, Dani.

"After 3 months of climbing back in through the window, you would at least know how to be quiet about it."
She chuckles as I pull myself up and dust off my pants.

"You're not even supposed to be out there! It's against the laws!" She exclaimed while I pull off my backpack,

"Yeah, and going against the laws is fun. Try it sometime," I say removing the sheet from my bed and diving right in.

"Lauren you're out in the wild almost every night. Firstly, do you want to die?! They let out the monsters at that time! You can't just go against the Eclipse. Second, did you even study for our final test tomorrow?" She asks.
My eye go to the size of saucers.

"Shit, no. That test is not tomorrow," I say covering my face with my hands.

"Laur, it's tomorrow. You know if you don't get the right test results you-"

"Yes I know! You'll get thrown out of the base for good and have to live in the wild!" I say. "I'll be fine Dani okay?"

She nods, "I just don't want you to go out there. And, a-and maybe you'll see people from the moon base, and you know we're from the sun base. You know we don't get along. I mean that's the reason we're separated. You know the Eclipse. The sun and moon together create this dark tragic mess. And-and when a moon person and a sun person would go together it would-" I grab hold of her shoulders tight.

"It's gonna be okay Dani. If it happens, you have to stay here okay? You can't go out there Dani, you're not ready to see what's out there." She nods and wraps her arms around me tightly.

"Please, Laur, please. Don't leave me." She said into my shirt. I hug back just as tight kissing her hair that lies on the top of her head,

"Never"
