Setting: the middle of a forgotten spot in the Caribbean.

Alex (17) pov:

I sat up on a rooftop as the flood waters rushed past my feet. Amidst scribbling furiously in the old notebook my mother gave me, before she passed away. I ignore the judgmental stares and whispers shot from people floating by on makeshift rafts. Probably wondering who could possibly be writing at a time like this.

The hurricane struck a few days ago and wiped out a majority of this little town, my home. Unfortunately, I couldn't seem to die. "Excuse me!" a small voice said from behind the house, "I need help sir!" I turned around to see a little boy clinging for dear life onto some loose roof shackles while carrying a small container of food in one hand. " oh! here, first stuff the container in your pocket then give me your hand" I instructed and reached down to grab the little boy's hand."Thanks!" He said in relief, " do you want some?" He asked holding the small food container in front of my face. " Ummm... actually I have an idea," I said, but receiving merely a confused look in return. " HEY EVERYONE! GO GET ANY FOOD YOU CAN FIND, BRING IT OVER AND COME SIT IN A CIRCLE ON THIS ROOF!" I called out.

People immediately started scrambling ( scrambling=eggs=food 😂 get it? Haha... puns) to find food and hurrying over with various scraps and even partially full dishes. We stacked everything up on a plate and passed it around the circle of survivors. When we had all eaten our fill, I told them about my plan to write a series of essays that will pay for a boat ride to New York for me and this little boy (Matt), so he could find a safe place to live and I could apply to Kings College.

At first, the people were shocked and immediately tried to disprove my idea. It was surprisingly... intimidating. But, I gathered some courage, ( and not brag, but my excellent persuasive skills) fought against them, and won.

I'll start tonight and in a few days I'll have a finished essay, a testament to my pain, to present to the captain.

- heyyyyy hope you guys liked the little intro w/ ham in the aftermath of the hurricane and using the power of excellent persuasive skills ( and puns).
