Loki glanced down at his younger brother whose head lay resting in his mother's lap. Thor his older brother who sat on his left hand side couldn't sit still, as usual he always got too excited whenever their father told them stories of his glorious battles.
This particular story was about a battle in midgard with the frost giants. The frost giants seemed to think jottunheim was not enough for them and tried to enslave midgard.
In Asgard the frost giants were very hated and this had started long before the war. The asgardians found the frost giants to be despicable beings, synonymous with all things barbaric and vile.
Baldur looked up at Loki from his mother's lap. He giggled when Loki rolled his eyes as Thor began to interrupt his father.
"And then you smited the pitiful frost giants and stood victorious", Thor said, "right father".
"Right". Odin said as he laughed.
Loki looked at his father with admiration in his eyes, he swiped the lock of ebony black hair that had fallen into his emerald green eyes.
As they went off to their rooms Loki couldn't help but think of the difference between him and his siblings.
He knew he didn't really look anything like his brothers. In addition to his dark hair and green eyes he had pale clear creamy skin, this was in contrast to Thor's blonde hair, his engaging sky blue eyes and tanned skin.
Baldur wasn't pale but he wasn't tanned either, he had golden brown hair and eyes that looked like a mixture of brown and purple, sort of wine colored actually. Those were the eyes of Frigga, their mother and Thor's eyes resembled their Father's. Loki had no idea where his dark locks and green eyes had come from but it never seemed to bother his parents so he never spoke of it.
Other people noticed though, he heard servants gossiping about it behind pillars, people whispered about it when he passed by and Heimdall always watched him with a wary look in his eye. Heimdall always looked at him suspiciously like he knew something he didn't.
Loki usually ignored the strange looks and kept to himself. Today he was being teased by three boys, they looked to be about Thor's age. In midgardian years that would be twelve and Loki would be ten.
"Just ignore them Loki." Baldur said. Baldur always seemed much wiser than his years. If he were midgardian he would only be eight but sometimes he sounded like he would have been fifty.
Baldur was always so innocent and sweet. When he was born it was a time of peace in all the nine realms and his birth was meant to reflect that happiness.
He had become a symbol of hope in all the realms and since Odin had made peace with them a force had impacted Frigga's unborn child.
Nothing in all the nine realms could injure Baldur, no weapon, no poison absolutely nothing. He could still feel pain but no real damage could be done.
He was titled god of light, love, happiness and peace. Loki was titled god of mischief, trickery and charm while Thor was the god of thunder, war and bravery.
Loki couldn't disagree, his title was fitting. He loved playing tricks on people although some people just couldn't take a joke.
He wanted to play a trick on these boys and he definitely didn't want them to find it funny. The leader of the group was a stocky boy with a shaggy blonde mop of hair.
They were in a garden not to far from the palace, Loki had always found this a peaceful place but today those boys were getting on his nerves.
When the leader tried to throw something at him Loki made an illusion of a large snake appear in the garden. The boys frightened ran away screaming.
Loki was quite pleased with himself but when he turned to Baldur with a smirk on his face he saw him watching the fleeing boys with a frown on his face.
"You pity them", Loki said angrily, "after what they've done".
"They only tried to hurt you because someone hurt them".
"So you think I'm wrong and they're justified". Loki said
"That's not what I meant Loki".said Baldur
"Just leave me alone and get lost". He screamed
"I'm sorry they hurt your feelings" Baldur said.
"Go away".Loki replied softly without looking at him.
When Loki returned to the palace a look of dissaproval on his father's face told him he was in trouble. Apparently a guard had seen what had happened and informed his father.
Today just wasn't his day Loki thought as he lay in bed staring angrily at his ceiling. He couldn't seem to do anything right.
