Ariane's PoV:
Haruhi and I walked down the halls of Ouran. Not having seen each other in so long, we were trying to catch up with each.
"So, you seem like you'd be a social butterfly in America. What's school been like there?" Haruhi asked. I shrugged.
"School in America sucks compared to most European and Asian schools. The only thing I ever really looked forward to about school was play auditions and the talent show." I said.
"Play auditions? You're in the theater department?"
"Mm-hmm. I also do a lot of competitive drama in tournaments. I'm not the greatest, but I like doing it."
"Competitive drama?"
"Yeah, forensics. Don't you have that here?" I asked, looking at her.
"Not that I know of. Tamaki-senpai or Kyouya-senpai might know."
"Aw, I was really hoping to show off a little. Something tells me they don't have school plays here, either."
"Oh, we have school plays here. They mostly do Shakespearean stuff, though."
"Like'Much Ado About nothing', or like'Romeo and Juliet'?"
"Like 'Romeo and Juliet'." I sighed. At least Much Ado About nothing had some redeeming qualities as a play, Romeo and Juliet was an infatuation story where everyone dies!
"I'd rather do 'Much Ado About Nothing! That at least has some cross-dressing to make it interesting!" Haruhi laughed.
"There's a Shakespeare play about cros-dressing?" She laughed. I grinned.
"Just about every one of his comedies!"
~The next day~
"I have to wear...this?" I said, coming out of the bathroom in the yellow monstrosity that passed as the girls' uniform.
"I'm afraid so. Now, come on. If I'm late for the club meeting this morning, I'll never hear the end of it!" Haruhi said, dragging me through the door. I quickly scooped up my Avengers purse with an assortment of buttons on it. If I had to wear this dress, I was going to carry around something that was actually interesting!
~Time skip~
"Haruhi! I missed you." Tamaki said in a romantic sort of voice as we entered music room 3, hugging Haruhi tightly.Haruhi seemed kind of annoyed about it. It seemed that someone has a crush... I'd have to remember to tease her about it later.
"Hey, Ariane, you're in our class, right?" One of the twins asked.
"Yeah, for most of the day." I replied.
"Most of the day?" The other questioned.
"I take advanced math and history classes,as well as music and theater." I explained with a shrug. Haruhi blinked.
"I didn't know you were musical." She stated.
"Obviously, you haven't seen my guitar yet." I said.
"You play guitar? That's not an instrument that's typically played here at Ouran." The twins said in unison. I shrugged.
"Good thing I also play piano, then." Tamaki glanced at me.
"Care to show us, princess?" He asked, gesturing to a grand piano. I smiled, and nodded. I walked over to the piano and sat. I played a simple song, one I'd liked ever since the song came out. As I played the introduction, the lyrics came into my mind, and I began to sing.
"If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song" the words reverberated around the room, and I could sense the confusion of the hosts as I continued to sing the song."Uh oh, uh oh
Lord make me a rainbow, I'll shine down on my mother
She'll know I'm safe with you when she stands under my colors, oh,
And life ain't always what you think it ought to be, no
Ain't even grey, but she buries her baby." Here, I thought I heard a sniffle, but I ignored it."The sharp knife of a short life, oh well
I've had just enough timeIf I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love songThe sharp knife of a short life, oh well
I've had just enough timeAnd I'll be wearing white, when I come into your kingdom
I'm as green as the ring on my little cold finger,
I've never known the lovin' of a man
But it sure felt nice when he was holdin' my hand,
There's a boy here in town, says he'll love me forever,
Who would have thought forever could be severed by......the sharp knife of a short life, oh well?
I've had just enough time." This time, I was sure I heard some sniffles from the hosts, but I ignored them, too caught up in the music to care."So put on your best, boys, and I'll wear my pearls
What I never did is doneA penny for my thoughts, oh, no, I'll sell 'em for a dollar
They're worth so much more after I'm a goner
And maybe then you'll hear the words I been singin'
Funny when you're dead how people start listenin'If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love songUh oh (uh, oh)
The ballad of a dove (oh, uh)
Go with peace and love
Gather up your tears, keep 'em in your pocket
Save 'em for a time when you're really gonna need 'em, ohThe sharp knife of a short life, oh well
I've had just enough timeSo put on your best, boys, and I'll wear my pearls." The music trailed off, and I looked at the hosts, Tamaki was in tears, and I could've sworn I saw a couple of the others wipe away stray tears as well.
"That was so beautiful! Truly one of the best things I've ever heard! But so sad..." He exclaimed, hugging me tightly. I squirmed.
"Get off me! Can't breathe!" He let go of me then. "Thanks, but it's not really sad. To me, the song's about loss of life, but also hope for the future. It's also about how people don't understand what something is worth until it's gone. To me, the song's the harsh truth of life." I explained, but I didn't really think anyone but Haruhi would understand what the song really meant to me.
The bell rang for class, and I stood up. Kyouya stopped me. "Before you leave for class, you might want to take some of the buttons off your bag. Some of them can be considered offensive." He said. I nodded. I'd planned on doing that anyway.
"Yeah, I know. I'll see you guys later!" I said, grabbing my bag and rushing from the room.
