*Inspired by the paralympics*

*I wrote this two years ago during the London Olympics! So Im sorry if its not my best. :) *

It had just been a long day at school, and my best friend, Alice and I were walking home, "Do ya wanna race?" She asked suddenly turning to me.

I laughed and raised an eyebrow, "Really?" I laughed sounding ruder than I had intended to.

She crossed her thin arms over her chest, "If you don't think I can do it-" her tone was dangerous,

"I never said that," I interrupted, "I just...You just had surgery.... Do you think?" I couldn't find the right words.

She took a couple of confident steps foreword, "I feel fine! You just don't want to be beat." She laughed, walking back to me her head in the air.

I did run alittle, I have been in track since 6th grade, but she never did sports, she never was allowed. I sighed and got ready to run, "Ready?" I asked unsure looking at her.

"Yup!"

"If you fall I'm not helping you..."

"I don't want your help." Alice snapped, "Now are we going to race or not?"

"Sorry," I muttered, pausing and staring down the street, "Ready, set.... GO!"  I shouted sprinting down the street, seconds later, my friend came racing beside me, passing me with ease... I felt my body drain of what energy I had left, and I eventually slowed to a jog.

As Alice ran, people stopped and watched her go by.  She stayed at full speed, until she reached her house, and threw her arms to triumphantly.

I finally jogged up to her house, she grinned at me "I won!" She yelled jumping slightly. I shook my head and stared at the ground, smiling, feeling almost mad at myself because she won, "Did you go easy on me?" she gasped, winded slightly.

"N-nope" I wheezed looking back at her "I was planning on beating you..."

Her smile broadened, "Your plans went wrong somewhere then.... Lets go inside Im starving!" She said suddenly, her short attention span jumping from place to place. I followed her into her house I was still struggling to get my breath back, and Alice had already done just that.

Before I knew it, she ran past me and up the stairs, "Your insane!" I laughed running after her, we got to her room, and she threw herself on her bed.

"Wanna cookie?"  She asked taking one from her huge pile and waving it in the air.

I raised an eyebrow, "Why won't I want a cookie?" I asking, my breathing had gotten better but, I still hadn't fully recovered.

She launched the cookie right at me, it hit my torso and fell to the ground, "I thought you were good at sports?" she said grinning madly.

Alice was in a VERY good mood today, so I simply shook my head, picked the cookie off the floor and watched her take off her prosthetic leg....
