BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP

I groan and throw my hand over my side table to silence my alarm clock. I look down at myself and I realize that I'm covered in sweat. Hmm I thought, I must've been having a bad dream again...but I can't remember what it was..

I'm snapped out of my thoughts when I realize I'm already running late. It's my first day of my senior year in high school. I quickly hop in the shower and wash myself as fast as I could. When I step out I wrap a towel around my head and another around my body. I look at myself in the mirror and suddenly I feel extremely anxious. I remember it's my first year without my boyfriend by my side everyday. He's one year older than me and graduated last year.

I sigh and decide to shoot him a quick good morning text, not expecting a reply back.

Immediately, my phone buzzes. It was a text from James, my boyfriend. "Hey babe. Have a good day today and remember I still exist. Love u"

I roll my eyes at the text and decide not to respond back to him. Instead, I text my best friend, Courtney. "Ugh, Court, he thinks I'm gonna cheat on him today. Just wish he could trust me for once :\"

I put my phone down and get myself dressed in some jeans and a red Fender t-shirt. I unwrap the towel from my strawberry blonde hair and brush it out. I put just a little bit of makeup on because I know James wouldn't be happy with me wearing anymore than just mascara. He always tells me I look fine without makeup and I don't need to be fake like all the other girls. I feel my stomach turn as I think of him. I'm snapped out of my thoughts when my phone buzzes again. It's a text from Courtney.

"Omg what an ass. Shay just tell him ur not gonna do anything lol. Cya at school!"

I sigh. I probably should answer him before he freaks out.

I glance down at my phone, not realizing I had another text from James. "Shaylynn?"

I feel my heart stop as I quickly type out a reply. "Yeah, sorry. And don't say that, I wish you would just trust me. I'll text you later when I'm out. Love you too."

I grab my backpack and rush out the door, not even bothering to say bye to my parents. I hop in my red Jeep Wrangler and shove the key into the ignition. As soon as it starts, I reverse out of the driveway and race to school, already late for my first day.

...

When I walk into my first period 10 minutes late, I find a seat in the back of the class. As I walk to it, I can feel everyone's eyes on me. I sit down and then glance around the room, an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. I notice Courtney giving me a worried look from the other side of the room and she holds up her phone pointing to it with her free hand.

I glance down at my phone and realize there's a text from her. "U ok?? U look sick!"

I smirk and type back a reply. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just the usual anxiety, you know the deal." I look back up at her when I'm done replying and silently communicate to her to check her phone.

She looks down for a brief moment and then I feel a buzz again. "Everything ok with James? I hear there's a new kid at our school who's apparently super cute ;)"

I chuckle as I start to write out my reply. "U should totally go for it! As for me and James, idk."

Just as I click my phone off, I hear my name get called.

"I'm sorry Shaylynn that I'm boring you. But at least pretend to listen and put the phone away," my teacher, Ms. Bower, glares at me. She's an older woman with frizzy red hair and huge glasses.

I feel my face get red as everyone in the class turns to look at me, "Uh, yeah, sorry. Consider it gone." I force a smile at her as she looks away from me and continues her lesson.

I immediately look at Courtney and widen my eyes at her sarcastically. She chuckles and turns back around in her seat.

...

After class is over, Courtney runs up to me and grabs my schedule out of my hands, "Hmm, looks like this is the only class we have together. Damn."

I sigh, "Ugh. And Ms. Bower probably already hates us so I guess we're never gonna be able to sit next to each other."

She giggles, "Oh trust me, I'll work something out. But hey, there really is this super hot new guy. I saw him this morning as I was walking in. I got his schedule from Ms. Kim and he has every class with you except for first period."

I raise an eyebrow at her, "So I'm assuming I'm supposed to be your spy then?"

She gives me a pleading look, "Oh please! He's so cute I just have to try!"

I laugh, "Okay fine. What's his name?"

She smiles, "I don't know yet, you'll know who he is though when you see him. Trust me. He's your type."

The bell rings before I can question her about my "type" and I sigh as I wave bye to Courtney.

"Try to get a seat by him!" She calls over her shoulder as she hurries away.

Great, I get to deal with the wrath of James after I tell him about this one.
