Chapter One

The rain drops falling on the roof shouldn't have made a sound. A roof that is atop a three million dollar house should be like a fortress. Although these observations shouldn't be taken for distaste. The muffled sounds that emanate through the roof have become almost a constant in my life.

The attic of this massive house I live in is the only place I feel conformable. The attic is spacious not unlike the rest of the House. It isn't full of polished silver or stainless steal appliances. It has boxes of  Christmas decorations and old linens. There is no overhead light so I rely on a skylight in the center of the slanted ceiling. The dismal amount details my parents put into this shows how little they care for the room. Maybe that is the reason I like the attic so much, I can relate to it.

My thoughts are interrupted by the sound of someone opening the attic door. I sit up on the couch I was laying on previously, listening to the approaching footsteps.  A head full of dyed blonde hair peaks up from the stairway. My mother has one hand covering her eyes and the other holding onto her cellphone.

"Fabio are you decent.?" her obnoxious voice calls out to me. I roll my eyes and flip onto my stomach, burying my head in my pillow. I hear her scoff and imagine her peaking through her fingers at me.

"it wasn't a rhetorical question Fabio." the sound of her heels on the hardwood is almost as annoying as her voice. The sound of her footsteps ceases. I hear her breathing, fast but not alarmed in any way. I can tell she is ready to leave me alone again. I wonder if she ever wanted children or If I was a mistake only kept to avoid the bad reputation from an abortion. Realizing she isn't going to speak I take my head out of the pillow and focus my gaze on her feet.  Looking into her eyes would only reveal my disappointment that she hadn't given me any sign of affection. She sighs again and I watch as she shifts in her Louis Vuitton's.

"honestly the silent treatment will get you no where." she says before turning towards the stairs.  I assume she will be leaving so I open my mouth to mumble a goodbye.

"Stephen, get up here he's decent." she calls down the stairs leaving my jaw hung open in surprise, the goodbye lodged in my throat. Mother waits at the top of the stairs with her hands on her hips. As she impaiantly taps her foot my thoughts wander, attempting to remember who Stephen is. Heavy footsteps come up the stairs and a head of brown hair peaks up from the stairway. The footsteps continue and a thin guy makes his way into my room. He doesn't look very old, twenty maybe.

"so where do you want this put?" Stephen says in a fairy high pitched voice. My mothers foot tapping continues as she glances around the room. Her eyes scan over the walls before finally landing on me. Before I can catch her glance she looks to the wall by my feet.

"put it at the end of the couch. If I call at night I want no excuse for not answering." she says. Stephen nods his head before walking down by my feet. I look at him for a moment before turning towards my mothers voice

"well this has taken longer than it should have. See you at dinner dear." she is already on her way down the stairs halfway through the sentence. I scramble to my feet hurrying to gain her attention.

"wait mom, whats going on? Who was that guy?" I ask bounding down the stairs after her. She doesn't bother to slow down or look back at me.

"Fabio I really don't have time for chit-chat Im a very busy woman, you must understand this." she sighs.

"i know, I just wanted to know why there is a strange man putting something in my room." I say my steps slowing to a stop and my face falling into a frown my mother sighs and turns back to me.

"i am having an intercom system hooked up. Its a time waster to walk all the way the stairs to see." before she can finish her sentence the doorbell rings. She seems both grateful and annoyed by the interruption. She turns and walks away, the sound of her retreating footsteps a stab to my heart. Was she going to say its a waste of time to see me? An intercom system to cut down on any unnecessary interaction with me. I feel tears forming in my eyes but I simply blink them away as I hear her voice and footsteps approach. She enters the room swinging her hips. I consider asking who was at the door but my question is answered for me when a boy rounds the corner.

The first thing I notice about him is his hair. The top is a blue silvery Grey color that slowly transitions into a mint green. His fringe almost covers his eyebrows. His eyes seem to lack color, presenting themselves with a Grey with almost  unnoticeable blue tones. His nose is small and has a cute button like quality to it. He stands shorter than my mother although she is in heals. The shirt he is wearing gently hugs his curves, making the view enjoyable. He is absolutely adorable. The only problems? I have no Idea who he is, and he's a he.

" Fabio I may have forgotten to tell you but this is Derek and he will be cleaning our house." my mother says before walking out of the room. My cheeks heat up in embarrassment.

" Mother! How many times do I have to tell you to call me B." I seethe. I attempt to hide behind my long dark hair. My mother doesn't respond to what I say. There is silence until a shy quiet voice speaks up.

"its Damian actually. My names Damian. Ill call you B if you like me too." I look up at the boy who is responsible for the voice and cant help but smile. He smiles back at me inspiring me to take a few steps forward offering out my hand. He slowly reaches up to take hold of my hand. I notice his hands are small in mine, I smile wider.

" well hello Damian. I would really like it if you called me B. would you like to have a tour of the house?"
