"Hand over the girl. Or else." The raspy voice threatened from the darkness.

"No."

And older woman stood there clutching the shoulders of a little girl. She wipes a tear from her eye and bent down.

"Remember, whatever happens we loved you. You are the last one of us. The last hope for the human race."

The owner of the raspy voice emerges from the shadow. "Hand her over."

"No." The older woman looked at the man in fear. He had drawn a gun.

She bends over to the young girl again, "When he shoots run. Run Aubrey, run."

And with that she stood up and opened her arms accepting the inevitable.

And the man shot. The bullet flew from the gun with a bang, and the little girl ran, her red hair streaming out behind her.

She ran for her life. Then all went black.
