He ran his fingers along my face gently, outlining its structure.

I sat helplessly beside my fathers limp body, crying like a baby.

"Rowan, y-you'll always be daddy's princess. Y-you'll always shine."

A crooked smile formed on his face as his eyes fluttered shut.

I kissed his cheek.

I laid down on his chest and cried.

I felt so helpless. So useless.

Half of an hour passed and a woman in a uniform was prying me off of my fathers lifeless body.

She pulled me up and swung me onto her hip.

"It's gonna be okay."

she assured, getting me far away from the crime scene.

The officer sat me in the back seat of the police car and closed the door.

No doubt, tonight was going to be a long one.

My six year old mind had processed too much for the night, the still youthful night.

The officer pulled into the parking lot of the police station and cut the car off.

She didn't move too hastily, she just sat there and exhausted a sigh.

I repeated her action, causing her to laugh a little bit.

"What's your name sweetheart?" she asked, turning around to face me.

"Rowan,and no it's not a boy name."

People always say my name is a boy name,so this phrase was something I said often.

She laughed again and smiled at me.

I smiled back.

We sat in the car silently, smiling for no apparent reason.

But what I do know,is that this is the most peaceful thing I've endured all night.

The two other police cars finally arrived and that's when the lady opened my door and placed me on her hip again.

"Zoe,you talk to the kid yet?"

the other male police officer asked the lady.

She looked at me and frowned.

"No," Zoe said. "Lets go inside."

The inside of the station was so plain. Yellow speckled-tile floors, bronze foldable chairs, and bright white lights that hurt my eyes and added on to my headache.

I hid my face in the long blonde hair resting on Zoe's shoulder.

She walked into a room and shut the. door.

I lifted my head and saw that we were in what looked like an office.

She sat me down in a chair in front of her desk and walked behind it.

"Okay sweetheart," she began. "I have a few question for you."

I drew my legs up to my chest and put my head on top.

The last thing I needed was for someone to reenact my fathers death.
