I think everyone was expecting Cameron to be really talkative and friendly, but he didn't really say much.
He sat. He used manners, and he ate his breakfast without saying a word.
The smiles on everyone's hopeful faces slowly turned into frowns.
We all cleared out plates and went upstairs to get ready for school.
Once we both reached our door,we paused. Cameron turned around and looked at me.
"What's it like there?" he asked.
I tried my best think of what he could be referring to.
I raised an eyebrow at him.
"The school. What's it like?" he explained, his voice now really low.
I pushed my room door open and waved him in.
He was a bit hesitant, but he stepped in.
"Hm. You've done a lot with your room." he said, looking around a bit.
"It looks nice though."
I smiled,digging through my closet.
"Thanks.Okay so the school is really, basic. There's the jocks, nerds, preps and the creative ones. It's pretty much like any high school." I explained, picking up a solid white tee shirt.
"Which one are you?" he smirked.
"I could imagine you as a cheerleader."
"Ah very funny."
He took a bold move and sat down on my bed. I could tell he was getting a little more comfortable around here.
"Can't we just skip school today? I mean,it's Monday.Monday aren't important." he suggested, admiring my pictures on the nightstand next to my bed.
I looked at him like he was crazy.
"Skip school? Are you crazy?"
He looked up at me and frowned.
"Ugh. You must be a prep."
I couldn't even argue with that.
I was guilty in a way.
"Close your eyes."
We all load the school bus outside. I could tell that Cameron was kind of nervous so I tried not to bother him. He sat by himself in the front seat and gazed out the window. I couldn't help but wonder about him. His moods seemed to change every now and then.
I decided not to stress myself out about it.Instead,I left it alone and have him space and time to adjust.
The bus arrived in front of the school and we all groaned. Mondays really are the worst.
The cement beneath my shoes was decorated with rain drops. I looked up at the sky and only then realized that they clouds were gray.
I rummaged through my bag to see if I had an umbrella for later, just in case the rain decides to pick up.
I bumped into someone in front of me.
"Oh,sor-"
I stopped. Cameron's face twisted up before he realized it was me.
He laughed.
"Thought you were someone else."
He held the door open for me and we both entered the school.
To the left, kids studying on the coffee chairs by the windows. To the right, jocks passing around a football and cheerleaders primping their hair.
"If you want me to give you a tour,I won't mind." I offered.
Cameron was still looking around the school. Banners and flyers were pinned up on almost every wall, giving light to the school on even a dreary day.
I couldn't read what he was thinking, but he looked somewhat impressed.
"Here, follow me to the office so that we can get your stuff."
We walked a few feet until we arrived at the main office. The smell of fresh coffee and perfume lingered in the air.
"What can I do for you sweetheart?'
Mrs.Howell asked.
She was such a sweet lady. She wasn't any taller than 4'11 and her short blonde hair suited her perfectly.
"I was wondering if I could have the locker combination and schedule for Cameron Dallas. Today's his first day and I'm trying to help him get settled." I explained.
She smiled,as if admiring my politeness.Honestly, many people are the reason for my manners. They remind me of who I was and what I don't want to be. A delinquent.
